COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You might think this is a Russian style girly beer (a little Nabokov for you), but instead it is a very sophisticated Raspberry Belgian Ale. Fermented with brettanomyces (the little guys who give us that tart zing) and fresh raspberries, this brew is bright yet deep with spices and edges of the fruits natural tart quality to give it a white wine kind of finish.

Tap (chalice filled) at hopleaf for a goose island event... Pours a semi- opaque orange copper brown pour with a thin wispy off-white head... Aroma if tart raspberries, little vinegar, and just a tad funky in nature... Berry-forward in flavor, semi-tart in nature, very light acidity and extremely drinkable. Shall be nice to see this in bottles later this year.

Bottle. Pour is clear red with a small off-white head, no retention/lace. Aroma of raspberry, funk, lemon, dust. Taste is sour, brett, raspberry, vanilla, earth. Palate is dry, sharp carbonation, slick palate, sour finish. Good.

2011 bottle from the House of Trembling Madness. Pours a lovely, translucent red-brown. Aroma is raspberry, cherry, lemon, oak, winey. Taste is good and tart, with raspberry, lemon, funk/brett, white wine. Medium body, relatively long finish. Its good. Very good. I like a lot. Mmm mmm.

2011 bottle (at 9% ABV) from Trembling Madness. Slightly murky brownish red colour, thin bubbly head gases to nothing. Lovely nose, lemon, some tart raspberry, soft brett, oak characteristics too. Nicely tart, lemony, big oaky brett character with a soft sourness and just a touch of tart raspberry. Some hints of white wine (Sauvignon?) perfumed character too. Nicely soft puckering finish. Lovely carbonation, if a little thin. Very good.

Bottle pour on a 90+ degree day....pour is a fairly clear garnet pour, with a very slight off white head that fades very quickly. Aroma is light raspberry fruit, lots of seeds, light plastic, hay, light lactic tartness. Taste is tart raspberries, lots of woody notes, more citrus tartness. Effervescent mouthfeel. Finishes fairly oaky and dry. Nice beer!

Pours a ruby orange color with minimal head and light carb. Aroma is funky sour cherries and raspberries. Taste is nicely funky and fruity with a dry finish. A tad thin and watery but still really tasty stuff.

Last bottle at RFD. Pleasant surprise, yes indeed. Deep clear purple color, tiny coca cola head. Aroma of dusty raspberries, citrus. Taste is sour and dirty raspberries, hay loft, attic, dirt pile, lemon rind. Really nice. The aroma very briefly reminded me of Rose de Gambrinus. Only briefly. Then I came to my senses.

poured from bomber into a tulip. Pours a medium amber/strawberry color with a smaller head. Shows off the sour characteristics right off the bat with some funk, sour cherries, berries, raspberries and some spices. Medium bodied with a very smooth feel and flavors of sour cherries, raspberries, and some tart stawberries. Finishes nice and dry as well. This is a real good wild ale. Is definitely sour right now and this was a 2012 bottling.

Poured brownish red with no head into my DFH signature glass. Aroma of oak and funk, not much of a hint of raspberries but it is there in the background. Taste follows the nose, really oaky more than most beers I’ve had. More fruit in the taste. Tart but still smooth while hiding the alcohol. Tasty beer, I’m glad I tried it!

2011 vintage. 22oz. bottle served in a tulip. Poured a reddish gold with a finger of off white head. Tart fruit, oak and a little brett in the aroma. Tart raspberries to start and a long finish of oak and vanilla. Medium bodied. There is a lot going on here. Not super sour, but a nice acetic bite that was in balance with the rest of the beer. A pricey bottle, but I’m really glad that I pulled the trigger.
