FoBAB 2011. Hazed orange with a thin head. Aromas of soapy hops malts ok. Bitter funky flavors dirty funky. Kinda not too good. 7/3/5/3/12

Tasted on draft at FoBAB 2011. Pours hazy light brown with an average, bubbly white head that recedes to nothing more than a thin collar of lace. The nose is dill oak with some milk chocolate, vanilla, and a touch of caramel. The flavor is dry, with dill, coconut, vanilla oak, and a touch of caramel. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long, oaky and hot finish.

Draft on tap at the brewpub on Black Friday (Chicago, IL). Pours a well hazed dark amber glow, some fire on the edges and glow with a fdecent offwhite head that dies to a small film, tiny lacing. Aromas are a healthy deadened hopping of citrus and florals, grass and touches of oak. Raspberry tannins, touches of toffee, caramel, and toast. Gentle spirit dances with an increasing raspberry presence as it warms. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied offering some dry bitter hops, earthy and citrus dance with raspberrry tannins, touches of fruit, dry and rpickly with wet oak and vanilla, spirity Bourbon, caramel and toffee, toast, and pale malts. Gentle sweetness, tannins, oak. A bit strange overall, oak and raspberries play well but the interface with the oak and spirit are strange. Finish is lingering raspberry and barrel, touches of dryness. Ok. A bit harsh overall and messy.

FoBAB 2011. Pours brown. For an IPA, not a big hop aroma. Little citrus, raspberry, wood. Only okay.

Sampled from the tap at 2011 FOBAB. Pours a hazy deep gold with a white head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma had a good amount of pine hops with a hint of backing raspberry and bourbon backing. Flavor had a much more earthy pine note with a bit of raspberry and bourbon backing but nothing too complex.

A hazed amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, a smooth caramel malt with light funky notes, smooth buttery and peppery notes. In mouth, a nice crisp caramel malt, herbaceous, light maple notes and vanilla beans, very nice and smooth. On tap at FoBAB 2011.

Draft at FoBAB 9. Not sure about this one, either. Pours a hazy brownish gold with fluffy head. Nose is strange. Vanilla, raspberries & malt. Some citrusy notes as well seem to clash with everything else. On tasting, astringent. Hops and raspberries make it really puckering. This just doesn’t work. The fruit is kind of flabby and muted. Meh.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2011 goose island louisville consumed at FOBAB 2011... Pours a hazy caramel apple cider hue and topped with a frothy soapy white head... Aroma of dark fruit with a honey golden base and vanilla bourbon on the backend. A little butter... Flavors are similar with a boozy astringency throughout with perhaps some berry fruit notes. Mild hoppiness which adds to a late developing bitterness. Light to medium bodied. Adequate carb but just doesn’t do it for me overall 6/3/6/3/13

draft... most fruited ipa’s fall short and this was no exception, the raspberries had a really generic quality and taste to them, barrel didn’t add much
