2010 bottle, to kick of the Three Sisters tasting. Pour is a fairly clear but mutted red, very little head and no lacing. Aroma is fairly standard sour cherry, light straw/hay. Perhaps a bit of acetic acid, but nothing overpowering for me. Taste is nice sweet cherry pie, with a sour kick that comes after the fruit that brightens things up. Unfortunately, the finish gets a bit muddled as some more medicinal notes from the fruit come out, and these flavors become more dominant the more I drink. My least favorite of the three. Not a bad beer, but not quite my thing.

Bottle(2012). Brown pour with tan head. Tart cherry, balsamic, acetic aromas. All cherry flavor has dropped off, tart acetic, and balsamic tones.

2012 on tap at Hay Merchant for Migration. Pours a dark amber with frothy white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is oak, cherry skin, and yeast. Medium mouthfeel with strong tart cherry and light tannin, easy to drink, really impressive.

So a new Chicago deep dish pizza place opened here in NYC which we tried this evening and they had plenty of goose island. Pours a rusty red with nice vinegar aand cherry nose. Tastes great of cherries, wine, wood, vinegar, leather. Its tart and paired great with heaviness of the pies.

2012 Bottle from Robertdale. A nice murky mahogany with a slightly rose tan head. A very nice tart flanders brown with loads of sour cherries, oak, malt, dry. Moderate carbonation and body, lots going on as it dances across the palate, enjoyed it most after it had warmed up a bit but before it had gotten to room temperature when the cherries began to run more towards cough syrup. Overall quite tasty.

[Bottle / 2012 / 1 year old] Thanks, Mike! Ruby color, very deep hued, blood-red in the light... Only a janky, gray-tinted skin of chunky bubbles forms on top, but quickly disperses. Aroma full of deep, mashed cherry jam & sharp, acidic cherry skins... Grape, light oak, & a mild, wet funk all backed by a slight lactic sourness in the periphery. Nice aroma, but it could use a little depth. Flavor has a nice mix of warm cherry skins, lightly tart lemon flesh, vinous grapes, & a slightly nutty undertone. Funk comes in & out in the form of must & wet cork... I get some obvious vanillin, & also something that seems to me like a cinnamon-y spice. Not sure what it’s from, but it works quite well. Dry finish with oak, grape, & cherry remnants; sharp carbonation. Another nice sour from Goose Island, though I think one ranks near the middle... I prefer Lolita, Juliet, & Gillian (a testament to how nice their sour line-up really is).

Rcvd in trade. Pours a dark brown color and leaves the same colored body with no head whatsoever and barely any lacing. Though what lacing is there is very thin and doesn’t stick as it just slides. The smell is extremely vinegary and vinous. The taste is extremely sour and tart and super hard to put down my throat. The aftertaste is extremely vinous and has an extremely dry vinous finish. On the palate, its between light to medium on the body. This thing defines harshness. Overall, I realize this is my first Flanders Oud Bruin I’ve ever had and most likely my last. There’s no balance whatsoever.

Bottle with friends (from notes). Pours a deep hazy golden amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have ample fruit with tart/sour cherries and berries, wood, vanilla, caramel and some mild funk. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Nice battle between the sweet and sour.
