I got a single 750mL bottle of this from Woodmanís in Janesville in November 2012. This pours a reddish brown color with a carbonated head that reminds me more of a cola than a beer. The scent is rich with yeasts and fermented cherries. Initially the taste of yeasty fruit hints you taste buds with a complex blend of ingredients. As the taste develops, it grows into this sweet tart taste that lingers in you mouth well past the swallow. Interesting certainly high end in taste but I was expecting something a little more in the realm of New Glarus Belgian red since this is almost twice as much in cost.

From a bottle from Cafe Nadery Goose Island Takeover 2015. Aroma/smell: Cherries, wine, spice, floral notes, caramel, vinegar, a bit of oak but not too much. No trace of alcohol, pleasant. Appearance: Orange/gold with a white head, light and floaty, almost looks like wine-like. Taste: Tart sour cherries with a wine/vinous note in the back, background reminds me of some Rosť wines but more subtle. Tartness is never overpowering, refreshing end, no alcohol. Always a bit of sweet with some tartness but the tartness is more pronounced. Similar notes to the aroma but a bit more balanced. Almost seemed like it was going to be too tart. Very refreshing and extremely easy to drink. Totals: Appearance: 8.3/10 rounded down Aroma: 7.8/10 rounded up Taste: 9.5/10, rounded up, Palate 9.7/10, rounded up. total, 27/30, 4.5/5 Subnote: If this happens to be the best American Sour Cherry Kriek and it happens to be just OK compared to the best, I canít wait to try even better versions from other breweries. For now, I love this...a lot. Canít wait to try the good Cantillon/etc.

22 oz bottle (2012 vintage) into a tulip. From notes. A: Pours a dark brown color, and surprisingly, itís somewhat clear. Thereís an off-white colored head thatís less than a finger, and even worse, retains poorly. The clarity helps give it some aesthetic appeal, though. S: Sour cherries. The cherries havenít faded away entirely with age, either. Unfortunately, there isnít much else, but the singular note provided is so wonderful that I donít care. T: The palate is first hit with some cherry sweetness. A tart bite quickly envelops the tongue shortly after, yet shows enough restraint not to overwhelm the flavor profile. The finish is nice and tannic. While lacking depth, it displays its few notes well enough to be quite enjoyable. M: This is superbly clean for the style. Because itís so dry and well carbonated, it makes it very easy to drink. Hell, Iíll even call it chuggable. Oak tannins donít dry it out to the point of excessive harshness, either. O: Too simple to be a world-class offering, but this still hits the sour taste buds like a champ. I imagine this would be more balanced (read: more cherry-forward) fresh; Iíd certainly buy it again to find out.

Bottle, 2010 vintage. Hazy deep ruby liquid with small to medium off-white head. Aroma of cherries, almonds, light port wine, minerals, light funk, lemon and wood. Taste is very light sweet and medium sour with notes of light lemon, cherries and light wood. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Really tasty.

Dark cherry fruit in the nose and flavor. A bit of a pucker factor, but more tart than sour. Nice oak notes. The wine of beers.

Thanks to Kraddel. 650 ml. bottle split. 2012 Vintage. 31/07/2012 bottling date. 1151 (bottle nr. ?) Dark brown, tanned bubbles only on the side. Nose is watery chocolate, dark cherries (they used sour ones but this smells & tastes like sweet cherries to me), light pie, bread & Christmas spices. Taste is watery sweet cherries, Christmas spices, bread, dough, fruity, brett is faint, light oxidation, berries, faint wine, very light brett, barely any sourness. Near flat & tad watery. Drinks okay but isnít very impressive or worth the effort, this is a 99+ American Sour? I have some pretty disappointing American sours recently with high scores.

On tap.
Appearance: Brown body with a short tan head.
Aroma: Incredible aroma, big with cherry and red wine vinegar, hints of caramel.
Taste: Not as sour as the aroma indicates, but sour cherry is big with red wine vinegar through. Hints of tannins.
Palate: Medium bodied, moderately carbonated.
Overall: Great beer, I could drink way too much of this. Good amount of sour with a complex backing.
