Ingredients: Water, Styrian and Saaz Hops, 2-Row Barley and Caramel Malt, Yeast and Granulated Beet Sugar.
Matilda is made with a rare yeast that suggests a fruity and spicy flavor. There is complex maltiness balanced with a profuse amount of hops.

Bottle... Clear, golden ale with a mid-sized, frothy, white head. Good retention. Yeasty, spicy aroma with notes of bread dough, orange peel and fuzzy fruit. The flavor is sweet, malty and lightly fruity. Medium-bodied with an astringent mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Finishes wheaty and dry. A bit Orvalesque, but pulls up way short of that lofty status. Not my thing, but a quality beer nonetheless.

Pours a medium dark amber. Aromas of orange, caramel, and some spice. Flavors are yeasty, orange, clove and other spice. Not a favorite style. But still a damn fine beer.

This beer has a healthy aroma that is an infusion of wheat, yeast, brown sugar, and banana. It is a golden orange colored solution with a good thick cream colored head. This rich moderately heavy beer flows through the mouth smoothly. This beer introduces itself to the palate with the taste of yeast. It finishes with a orange and wheat ensemble that fades leaving a nice healthy wheat taste lingering.

Hazy light tan. Nose fruity with orange and some spice, yeast, and vaguely moldy banana. Flavor is fruit, lots of apple and orange, bit tart, some yeasty chewiness, bunch of spice at the end.

This beer’s got some stank on it. Funky, cheesey, sweat socks. Yet spicey and lemony at the same time. Pours a nice amber color with tons of carbonation that forms a billowing creamy white head. The head leaves some great lacing. The flavor is that of an easy drinking beer. Nothing stands out, yet I can’t wait for another sip. Ahh there it is. As this treat warms you funk really cuts through. Refreshingly tart. Medium body, and a touch puckering. I really like this beer and hope I can always get it in this area.

Cloudy light brown color, big white head, lemony taste. Light, fruity aroma. Mildly spicy finish.

Light polished copper brew with small fizzy crown. Smells like the famous trappist ale Orval and tastes like it as well, all most exactly as a matter of fact, side by side I could probably note differences in hop flavor, bitterness, acid, attenuation, etc., but on it’s own, if you put it in a paper bag and served it to Stephen Beaumont or whoever you think of as an "authority", they would tell you that it was Orval, I’m virtually positive! Marked down just slightly for being such a copycat, though I guess I must grudgingly admit that that’s the "point" of this beer...still, can’t give the same grade to an homage as you do the original!

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2007 Bottles courtesy of Ughsmash, 1FastSTi, and Duane. Yes I love this beer. Hazy orange/copper with huge, white head that fades to film. Nice spotty lacing. Aroma full of fruity esters (orange, peach, pear and banana), slightly sour with some farmhouse mustiness, honey and pale malt in the background. Flavor very fruity up front, mostly orange zest. Big floral kick to it, maybe cardomom or paradise? Stays all floral through the middle and finish. Very clean. Very chewy-yeasty mouthfeel but creamy-smooth and soft-billowy at the same time. Very well done IMO.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2006 Golden orange body with an huge white head. Very interesting aroma of white wine, yeast, homemade rock candy, some vanilla. Flavor is fairly light and fruity with notes of apple and peach. I also tasted vanilla and a wheat beer flavor. The finish has a touch of spice and hop bitterness. Flavor is nice but not very bold or exciting. A very drinkable, nice beer but I wasn’t as impressed as I’ve been with other Goose Island Reserves.
