Matilda is made with a rare yeast that suggests a fruity and spicy flavor. There is complex maltiness balanced with a profuse amount of hops.

From the Bottle at the Smithfield Hotel, Manchester 18/07/2009 Bready floral aroma. Golden coloured and a little rich on the palate with a little dryness in a malty and bitter lasting finish.

Poured from bottle into Tulip. Slightly hazy golden-orange with bubbly head and lacing that forms and recedes with each sip. Aroma of tropical fruit, banana, clove, earthy, and slightly tart. Very hoppy, but not in a particularly bitter way. Tropical fruit (pineapple, fleshy fruit), pepper, spice, and dry earthy mustiness. Complex and I feel inadequate to describe it. Moderately high carbonation, medium body, very dry. Nice sipping beer that is a great affordable alternative to Orval. Of course, Orval is still a little better overall.

Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Nose is light malt, vinegar, citrus, brett, funk, pepper, yeast, and tartness. Flavor is same with lingering brett and a vinegar. It is an interesting beer, but not my style.

Bomber. pour is hazy gold with a medium white head. Aroma is malt, orange, spice, apple, and a hint of chamomile. Initial flavor is a bit off. Spiciness, orange, malt, and sweetness up front. Finish is nice; light spiciness, nuttiness, black pepper, and notes of sweetness. The initial flavor is almost a little cloying. But the finish is velvet and wonderful and makes me want more. Have not had this one in a while but it’s a good beer for sure. The initial flavor grows on me more and more with each sip.

12 oz bottle from Village Beer Merchant (Buffalo, NY). Deep amber pour with small fading head. Slightly funky fermented orchard fruit/apple and yeasty spice aroma. Flavor was sweet and fruity...again like orchard fruits such as apple and pear. Funky spiciness from the yeast. Overall, seems a pretty entry-level belgian amber with a bit of yeast funk. Decent brew. Glad to see it back in the area.

12 oz. bottle. Amber, staying & foamy light beige head. Lots of Budelse- like pear on the nose, caramel, very little spiciness, hint of chalk, raisins and licorice. Sweetish, peary and sugary flavor with licorice, faint aniseed, herbal bitterness. A bit alcoholic and stodgy, even mildly cardboardy. Medium bodied, round mouthfilling carbonation, slightly chewy. Very average, even bulky in the Belgian field.
