Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Dec 30, 2008 Bottle from Bitter Virtue, Southampton, Hampshire, courtesy of my dad, cheers dad, consumed 29-12-08. Pours reddy amber with a nice white lively, cheeky, bubbly head, it looks really decent. Starts off with some sweet tangerine at first but there is quite a lot of Belgian yeasty characteristics to this. There is also a Biere de Garde quality to this also although a sweet version and with plenty of fudge swishing about and some overipe fruit its really quite an interesting beer and not at all what I expected. A7 A4 F8 P4 OV15 3.8 leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Dec 29, 2008 Bottle. Golden brown with a small head. Aromas are caramel malts with vanilla. Some citrus, yeast and spices. Flavours are toffee malts with bitter lemon and banana. Yeasty with raisins. Dry on the finish. Decent. harrisoni (6703), Ashford, Kent, England Dec 28, 2008 355ml bottle from Utobeer. Slight haze on orange gold beer with lasting rocky beige head. Spicy lemony hop aroma, some good yeast character and orange citrus notes. I guess a bit like a Belgian strong ale with some pretty good stinging hop on the finish. Would never pick this as an American beer. Two things stand out, one is that the over carbonation make the mouthfeel very hard, secondly its actually pretty sweet. Toffeeish in the mouth and the orange sweetness carries on through the finish. Interesting aroma, good hops on finish, but a bit too sweet for me. Solid beer, but given that there are some very good beers at Utobeer, Im unlikely to buy this again. Yeast character rather fades on finish. Immiz182 (17), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Dec 27, 2008 Awesome beer. Had it in a 12 oz bottle at the Goose Island Brewpub. Had the appearance of a Golden strong ale. Nice and strong flavors jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Dec 27, 2008 Deep amber with a lively head. Aromas are a little floral, with a fresh grain component. A little yeast on the nose, but the beer tastes yeasty and combines spices and floral notes to good effect. Palate is unimpressive, however, as the weight of the beer and the finish leave something to be desired. kiefdog (1534), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 24, 2008 12oz bottle from Kahhs Fine Wine and Spirits (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a generally clear dark golden to copper color with a massive bright white foamy head. In fact, the bottle started to gush as it was opened and the proceeded to pillow out of the bottle before the head in the glass settled. Aroma is fresh grain, wheat, yeast, spice, and some hints of grapefruit, citrus, and fresh ripe fruit. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of wheat, caramel, spice, ripe fruit and candy sugar. Generally medium body with a slightly sweet malt finish. basewars (144), Albany, New York, USA Dec 22, 2008 Bottle at Mahars in Albany. Pours golden with nice effervescence. Smells of fruit and caramel malt. Flavor is fruity with some spice notes. I really enjoyed it. WakeandBake (422), Greenville, Michigan, USA Dec 21, 2008 Botle.
