Tasted from bottle at the Pizza Port Strong Ale festival. Bottle from BBB63, Mike. Amber color. Small bubble head. Meady (which is good!). 8,3,9,4,16:4 Rerate at Dr Bills. Why is this considered a strong ale? 7,3,7,3,15: 3.5

Hazy amber color with red shades. The aroma is a bit soapy. Soft mouthfeel, medium body, but the flavor is not impressive. Overall, not as good as the draught one.

2007-09-29, draught at the brewpub, Clybourn location, 7-4-8-4-16=39
Hazy amber color; creamy head. Nice aroma, malty, spicy and yeasty, Belgian style. Good mouthfeel, round; malty flavor, with a sweet spicy character (described as mellow tartness by the brewery); good bitterness. Mature brew, excellent Belgian example.

A little thin for me, and from what I’ve had so far, a little thin as Belgians go. The prominent note is lemon, which is one of my red flags. The finish is a lot like the start - yeasty, lemony - which is another. I had in on tap at Clybourn.

bottle ’06 - Pours hazy gold with a huge head. This one took awhile to pour. The aroma is of sweet malt and some citrus. The flavor is very sweet with light citrus notes, and a touch of spice and alcohol. It’s pretty good, but I don’t think they’ve quite nailed the style. edit: Enjoyed on draft this year. It’s better that way. Bumping up my rating just a little...

This was good. From the tap at The Nomad in Milwaukee. Served in a tulip. Looks like ruby red grapefruit juice, has a delightful yeasty aroma with spices and citrus notes. Tastes like orange-grapefruit-cider, which sounds bad but is actually quite pleasant. Not overly spicy like many Belgian knockoffs, so it was nice not to have overwhelming wheat or coriander in there too.

Tap @ GI Clybourn – Dark hazed gold with soft aromas of spicy fruity hops and hints of bread. Balanced yeasty spiced fruit flavors end with a light hop kick. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry, lightly bittersweet finish. Nicely done…
