4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
A better Belgian than Belgium can brew. Pours an unfiltered amber with a small head. Aroma is of grapes, yeast, and basement. Tastes of yeast, plums, candy, apples, and sugar. Has a medium body with tingly carbonation and a light vinous aftertaste. Very well balanced beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a dark orange, honey color, small head, some lacing. Aroma is Belgian spices, clove, some banana but thereís a feeling of complexity here. Taste is yeasty with a complex spice feeling. A slight bitterness at the end which is awesome and great balance. A very nice brew!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Superb Belgian from......Chicago? USA does it best (and worst) when it comes to beer. This Illinois beaut is no exception, glowing opaque copper with a crisp white foam. Smells of white grapes, sweet piss, honey, wheat, yeast, basement, raisins and earthy musk. Exceptionally smooth and tasty. Perhaps best described by a friend new to the style as "everything I like about the idea of wine without any of the bad shit I donít like". A wee bit of spiciness and berries in the taste as well, very mildly bitter with an enjoyable dry fruity finish. Excellent stuff, this.

"nice fruit and spice aroma. yeasty, but mellow. a touch of hops mingles with the spiciness and sweet in the flavor. quite good all the way around. well crafted brew. surprisingly, the weak link in a Sophie-Pere Jaques-Matilda tasting."

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Creamy yeast and coriander type of aroma. Burnt amber opaque color. Thin foam head. Potent at first taste as this brew means business but then softens and welcomes you in. Mild sweetness and has a deep complexity.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From old notes, tasted with Curtis and some friends in Nashville, probably some time near the summer of 2012, from a 2010 bottling. Pours clear dark orange with a thick white head that leaves average lace. The nose is brett funk forward and caramel malt with a nice fruity pineapple note. The flavor is a bit sweet with the pineapple and caramel up front, moving to really great dry, spicy, and funky brett. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long spicy brett and touch of pineapple finish. Just like Orval, I think that about two years is the sweet spot for this beer.

Orange golden with a big white head. Aroma of brett and light grassy hops, floral and funky. Taste is lightly sweet caramel, citrusy fruit, bretty goodness. Really nice and not what i was expecting.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(bottle from 02-2014) Pours a semi-hazy orange color with a tall white head that retains very well. Aroma really pinballs between scents and constantly morphs and changes through floral, fruit, and herbal shifts. Funk tags along as well. For the floral phase I perceive predominant scent of rosehips although I smell potpourri from time to time. For the fruit phase all things citrus are displayed with a cornucopia of scents ranging from grapefruit, orange, and lemon with some residual apricot lurking mostly in the background before slamming to the forefront with further warming. The herbal scents are more minty, but they seem to die down with further warming which was a bit of a letdown as that element lifted the aroma even higher in the early goings of consumption. Flavor holds the aforementioned apricot, sweet caramel, and a good dose of lightly stinging citric hops on the finish. The case could be made for these hops being spicy. Nice undertone of funk sounds out on the far finish, but the dryness isnít quite there yet. This bottle is only 7 months old, and maybe the brett hasnít yet had a chance to crisp this thing up, so it would be interesting to see how one of these ages. Mouthfeel is lightly syrupy which is an undesirable characteristic for this kind of beer, and perhaps with age, this beer will lose some weight. Carbís ok. Overall this is a solid belgian ale that, at its current price point, will prompt me to purchase another when itís a year old to see how itís coming along.
