MrChris (110), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA May 5, 2007 Dark fruit and spice aroma. Nice cloudy orange color with a health, frothy white head indicating good carbonation. Deep spicy flavor with a dry ending. Easy frothiness on the tongue, full but not suripy. Flavor holds to the bottom of the glass. This Belgian isn’t too over powering like some I had. valpoaj (362), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA May 1, 2007 Large head over a translucent amber body. Aroma is a wide mix of fruits and heavy on the spice, but difficult for an amateur nose to decipher much in the way of individual characteristics. I can’t help but sense some smoke in the aroma as well. Very spicy flavor, with some bitterness on the aftertaste. Intriguing, but this left something to be desired, which is probably in part due to my lofty expectations; the flavor was just a bit bland and the complexity did not allow anything to shine for me...oh well! On a side note, I fail to see how this compares to Orval as many state...maybe a bad bottle? If so, I’ll re-review Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Apr 17, 2007 A bit cidery, a bit boozy. Lightly sweet. Alcohol bittering on top of the hops. Light tea color, lacing head. Vanilla notes. Woody. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Apr 16, 2007 Bottle. Hazy amber/orange, a few odd shaped floaters, with an overflowing head. Aroma is bretty with pears and yeast. Heavily sweet and moderately sour flavor. Sticky texture. Very nice. thornecb (1737), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Apr 12, 2007 Pours bright amber into a trappist glass. Funky brett aromas. Sharp up front turns full and peppery with a lasting sour yeast finish. JasonG (700), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Apr 3, 2007 12 oz bottle - 2006: Pours a clear light amber color with big creamy off white head. Aroma has notes of honey, pear, apricot, herbal hops, bit of red wine vinegar and lactic tartness. Flavor has a fair amount of slightly chewy malt, bit of light caramel, note of honey and lemon, slight vinegary tartness. Finish is balanced, with a fairly notable bitterness. A decenet brew, an attempt to do a bretty beer, but doesn’t quite do it as nicely as some. kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 1, 2007 12oz bottle, 2006 vintage. I read the label, and figured it was appropriate to use an Orval chalice. Thin white head atop a orange brown body. Beautiful brett aroma with some apple and grass nuances. Yeast, pepper and candi sugar are most notable flavors, with a bit of bitterness building towards the end. Dry and oily on the tongue. Really delicious. bleeng (587), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA Mar 31, 2007 Let me say upfront-I love this beer. Having visited Orval almost 10 years ago it brings back memories of lovely times. GI has done well imitating/duplicating Orval with this wonderful beer.. The bitterness stands out but the palate pleads for more. My patience runs out when I see this beer in my cellar-it’s very difficult not to pull one out and have it. Tonight my patience ran out-I had one and I’m dissappointed.
Drink this beer.
