4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Good Belgian. I am not crazy about the rest of the beers I have had from goose island, but I like this one (others are not bad, just not in my wheel house). I know AB bought a stake in this company, but I doubt that impacts the bottle of Matilda I enjoyed tonight. I usually like my Belgians a little hotter than this one is, but a break from the really high abv won’t kill me. Good job, will buy again.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Petaluma Market. Golden brown in colour with some carbonation. Aroma is of sweet strawberries, some plum and funky fruit yeast. Taste is a creamy mix of citrus fruits with a slightl belgian yeast taste in there. Some spice on the finish. This is really smooth, flavoursome and hides 7% really well.

Love the names given to many of these beers, but this one was not my ’cup of tea’.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured into a trappist glass; Hazy orange color with a frothy 1 finger head; aroma of citrus hops (orange and lemon), cloves, and a touch of yeast from the bottle conditioning; Taste is citrus up front with no bitterness fading to a very lightly bitter herbal aftertaste that lasts; Carbonation is lively and well balanced; Mouthfeel is on the full side of medium. An absolutely exceptional beer. This reminds me of Leffe, which I imagine it is modeled after, but better. Less bitterness and more flavor.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (2013), 355ml. An orange beer with a creamy head that fades away after a couple of minutes. It has a floral aroma, just like Goose Island’s Sofie, but less intense. Taste is slightly bitter at the beginning and siur at the end. Medium to heavy carbonation and also a little bit watery.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hits all the right notes for the style, looks like it belongs in a Belgian trappist glass. Copper/orange with a small, silky oil skin head. Aroma of wine barrels and dried fruit. Taste is woody and smoky, some dried fruit, peat. Abrupt finish.
