4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottles from Rehills, Newcastle and The Bottle York. 2011 bottle aged for 3 years. A hazy light amber-golden beer with a zesty fruit and spiced citrus flavour, floral fruity notes and a vanilla, lemon, bubblegum and blackcurrant finish. Excellent!

Tap at New Bohemia. Beautiful appearance characterized by copper color. Little head. Taste is complex. Some spicy qualities. Some hops. Malt is there. Very easy to drink given the alcohol involved. Definitely one of Goose Island’s best. Finish is really solid. I would hook up with this Matilda.

Malty aroma, nice amber color, little to no white head. Nasty and spicy yeast profile. Great beer.

The body has warm reddish orange amber color with a cloudy haze. A thick and tall off white head caps off the beer and makes some nice lacing on the glass. In the nose I pick up lots of good things. There are notes of spicy and medicinal phenols with tropical fruit, yeast and sweet honey like malt. It also has a light touch of funky earthy hops. On the tongue there is a tasty mix of all the spicy/medicinal and yeast notes with some tropical fruit and honey sweetness. The funky and sweet notes are tempered with a good balance of earthy dry hop spice and bitterness. With its medium to full body I get a slightly different mix of flavor notes each time. The texture is kind of smooth and dry with a nice level of carbonation.

2012 on the bottle and drank in 2012. Clearly this shows it should be aged. Medium reddish - orange amber with fizzy, lasting, frothy, beige head. Nice lacing. Lovely sweet smell of malt, tropical fruit, caramel, and herbal elements with coriander, honey with notes of yeast.Crisp bubbly smooth medium oily body. Sweet butter malt start with caramel, herbal yeast, tropical fruit and well balanced against the earthy spicy dry finish. Beautiful beer and look forward to an aged version.

Glowing amber color. Fruity smell, Smooth with a spicy, yeast fruit finish that pulls dry right at the end. It takes your palate and your taste buds through two different journeys and then has them meet up right at the end. Great.

Fantastic brew. Pour is a nice light amber with a thin white head. Aroma is grainy but great.

Poured into a trappist glass; Hazy orange color with a frothy 1 finger head; aroma of citrus hops (orange and lemon), cloves, and a touch of yeast from the bottle conditioning; Taste is citrus up front with no bitterness fading to a very lightly bitter herbal aftertaste that lasts; Carbonation is lively and well balanced; Mouthfeel is on the full side of medium. An absolutely exceptional beer. This reminds me of Leffe, which I imagine it is modeled after, but better. Less bitterness and more flavor.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a cloudy copper with a ridiculously unmanageable head, requiring ten or fifteen minutes to tame to three or four pillowy fingers, great retention and heavy lacing. Nose is dominated by brett, with a distinct sour edge, against stone fruit and caramel malt. Taste starts out sweet, but moves quickly to sour, with a lingering sour and bitter finish. Mouth feel is slightly heavy, with lower than expected carbonation.
Oh, that’s nice. That’s very nice. Mildly funky and sour, with just enough brett to be interesting, but not overwhelming. Loads of character, with a gentle warming as the bottle progresses.

Pours a nice dark golden amber colour with a thin white head. Fruity aroma with slight malty hints. Rather sweet flavour but some subtle sourness at the end. The further I got into the beer some slight piney tastes came to the forefront. First Goose Island product I’ve tried and very excited to try more.
