A- Pours a sunset orange hue with tons of visible carbonation bubbles and a fairly thin, eggshell head. S- Smell is belgian yeast, apple, clove, banana. T- Taste is fairly solid and round, lots of light fruity notes, apple and banana complemented by a big malt backbone. M- Thick with medium to low carbonation. D- Even though i’m not a huge fan of the style, i enjoyed this one quite a bit. Very balanced and easy to sip on.

Malty aroma, nice amber color, little to no white head. Nasty and spicy yeast profile. Great beer.

Hazy dark orange in appearance with a white head. Aroma of belgian yeast, dark fruit and spices. Taste follows nose with a slightly sour finish.

The appearance is a clear orange with a very small white head, and the aroma is fairly light with only hints of Belgian yeast and sour fruit. The taste is mildly sour and slightly sweet, and the palate fuses an average carbonation, medium body, slick texture, and a slightly sour finish.

I am going through a Belgian Ale phase. This beer pours a hazy golden straw with a big white head. Scent is spicy. Flavors are complex mix of lemon, earth, with overall mild sweet flavor. Live yeast makes it nice and lively. Bottle - Sherlock’s - Decatur, GA

Nice solid Belgian style. Orange color. Aroma of banana and some tart apple. Taste is well balanced with Belgian style yeast, spices, sweet orange. Drinkable, with good carbonation. Nothing special but really good.

Tap at New Bohemia. Beautiful appearance characterized by copper color. Little head. Taste is complex. Some spicy qualities. Some hops. Malt is there. Very easy to drink given the alcohol involved. Definitely one of Goose Island’s best. Finish is really solid. I would hook up with this Matilda.

Pours a nice amber with a thick white head. Nice aroma of fruits. Taste is typical Belgian ale. Nice carbonation. Hint of fruit in the taste. Not very bitter. Just a solid Belgian ale.

2014 edition.... 12oz picked up at the COOP... poured into my short goblet 1/2" head dies back quickly.... very clear orange brew... no lacing. Aroma shows big phenol... clovey and lesser peppercorn... esters are equally large with pear and sweet apricot... doesn’t really gel with me, perhaps too much of everything. Again... clove phenols.. pear juice.. background toasty malt essence.. The palate is not nearly as pronounced as the nose... really lackluster. expected body and carbonation... Just an Okay brew.. I’ve had Matilda bunches of times over the years, and am never too impressed.

Bottle, 2012. Dark golden with thick offwhite head. Aromas of banana and marigold, maybe a little sweet bug spray but it smells like summer so that’s ok. More sourness on the back of the tongue and more of that vegetal taste that the aroma predicted. The alcohol is balanced and the mouthfeel is nice, maybe a bit thin. Beautiful label, interesting beer. Glad I tried it but don’t have to have a second.
