Bottle. Golden beer with a nice offwhite head. Some yeast in the liquid. Vinous sweetish aroma, vinegar, spicy, figs. Spicy, hoppy vinegar flavor, some spices, fruity, figs. Vinegar finish. Interesting but maybe a bit too much on the sourish side.

12 oz bottle. Bottled on 04/04/2012. 7% ABV.
aroma - light floral hoppiness, faint smell of honey, fairly distinct malted aroma, a bit of mustiness typical of style, notes are subtle and pleasant;
appearance - copper-red-brown, a bit lighter than many belgiums, head quickly dissipates, decent carbonation
taste - malt balanced with nice presentation of hop, a touch of spiciness (pepper?)on the finish,
palate - not exactly silky but very smooth for an ale of this magnitude
Overall - another enjoyable and well crafted beer by Goose Island

Smells mustard seed out of the bottle. Smells mustard seed when poured into a glass, too. I’ve occasionally had beers with this scent to some degree, but never to this extent. Some other spices and yeast, too (it’s a Belgian!). Malt becomes more noticeable in the smell after it sits a few minutes. Pours to super thick, massive head that commands your awe and patience. Lacing is phenomenal. Copper/gold color. 5 on the epic appearance. Flavor: whoa, this is different. Definitely some peppers going on of some sort. Very spicy. ABV burn that seems much higher than 7%. Fairly acidic and light-medium bodied, as I understand is common for this more general Belgian ale style. Some fruity tang, but I can’t place my hand on just what kind of fruit other than something vaguely orange-ish. Some have claimed this is sour, but I disagree - it’s just got a peppery, fruity tang. Aftertaste is maltier and keeps the tang from being overpowering. Very neat beer - not much like anything I’ve ever had before. Belgians of all kinds tend to be such fascinating beers. This is very sippable in slow doses. The description of "fruity and spicy" yeast is dead-on, as with complex maltiness, but I don’t notice the hops as much as GI claims. Nonetheless, a good beer that deserves a better-than-solid rating.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dorwart (2163) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - MAY 28, 2012
Decent sized white head o fine and dense bubbles. Reduces rather quickly to a thin sheen of foam on the surface. Little bit of funkyness in the aroma with legit sourness, some tart fruity aromas and some leather. Color is a dark orange. Soft malts with some chalky grains on the palate. Light bodied with biscuity malts, tea leaves and herbal hops flavors. Light sourness that makes the mouth salivate for more. Finishes grainy and dry. An ok belgian.

Smells of heavily perfumed hops like a good Belgian. Pours an amber blond colour without too much head or tracing. Taste has a touch of sourness, some bitter finish. It’s along the lines of Chouffe or Delirium Tremens. A likable session style Belgian. Bottle from Health Food Store in Lebanon, NH.

Pours a rich orange with a paperthin head. Funky aroma with Brett up front, spicy yeast and hops in the back. Taste follows, slightly medicinal. Smooth and hides the alcohol pretty well. Not bad

Draft. Pint. Poured dark brown amber at the top, orange in the middle and bright yellow at the bottom. Big fluffy head that left a lot of lace. Though pleasant in appearance it ended up having a tree gummy taste I did not like. More sweet malt flavors than hop bitterness. Finished smooth. Well blended, but no subtle flavors. Sorry, this felt like a heavy sweet beer syrup in water. Noticed some drastically different and varried reviews of this beer, mostly more positive than mine, but I am sticking with my gut.

Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in a snifter. The beer poured dark amber with a reddish tins. It smells very sweet with a hint of cherries. This beer is exceptionally smooth. It tastes kind of like cherries with a slightly spicy aftertaste. This is an outstanding beer that I would gladly recommend to friends.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 kryon (270) - SWEDEN - MAY 19, 2012
Pours apricot muddy with no head
Aromas of apricots, citrus, banana, some sourness
Very sweet overall. Some hints of sourness which balances it good. Tastes of bubblegum, bananas, apricots and some citrus. Nice!

Appearance: Hazy orange body with light white head. Minimal retention and lacing.
Aroma: Great aroma very complex, slight fruit flavors with a nice spicy note. Alcohol is present but not overwhelming. The smell sends you in a lot of different directions
T: Spiciness and floral up front but balances out with a nice fruity and maltiness. A flavor from raisins seem to become very present. Again alcohol note is present but not obvious.
Palate: Medium bodied with medium carbonation, very easy to drink.
Overall a very nice belgian style ale. True to style and very drinkable.
O: This is outstanding, it’s making me wish AB didn’t own Goose Island because I’m so conflicted. I guess it doesn’t hurt to buy once right? It’s going to be hard to ignore...
