Matilda is made with a rare yeast that suggests a fruity and spicy flavor. There is complex maltiness balanced with a profuse amount of hops.

Boy is that a pillowy head! Beautiful lacing. Deep golden color with a slight haze. The very standard spicy citrus aroma. That candy sugar thing happening in nose and taste. Nice texture...lingers on the palate. Mild, drop hop finish.

Almost no head. Orange golden hazy. Aroma of yeast, belgian?, fruity and spicy. Taste is also fruity and spice, some caramalt. But also a bit sour in the end. Started okay but there’s a spicy, pepperish and sour aftertaste i don’t like.

Very good beer and one of my favorites. Unfortunately a bit pricy. Fruity flavor but not too much. Balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

765mL Bottle (No, you’re not misreading that). Golden amber, fairly minimal white head. Aroma is caramel, pepper, nuts, toast, resin, earthy, and a slight hint of citrus. Taste is tart and fruity, with hints of apple, pear, caramel, and nuts. Fades into a sweeter, earthier, yeast and clove and finishes with a slight lingering hint of pine and citrus from the hops. Fairly fizzy carbonation, smooth and creamy. 7% ABV is hardly noticeable. Very well balanced beer, would consider storing one away to see how it ages, should I find the time.

My store just got this in this week, so I had to try one on. Pours a nice amber colour but with almost no head, which I find curious in a Belgian. Mild aroma of faint citrus and of course, Belgian yeast. Leaves me somewhat worried. Flavour makes up for it though- nice robust Belgian ale, ripe cherries, spices. A little bit sharp, but the bottle is young. I expect this would be incredible after some cellaring.

Bière blonde typique belge avec un nez très présent de levures. Le goût est de même sans vraiment d'autre arôme. La finale est assez longue avec encore des goûts de levures. Pour les amateurs de type belge classique ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draught at Belmont Station. Golden color. Aroma is pepper spice, yeast, plum, grass, and citrus honey. Taste is bittersweet yeast, pepper, banana, prune, grass, and honey. Finishes with a slight bitterness, but mostly a refreshing sweet farmhouse aftertaste.

Beautiful beer. It has a sweet aroma, reminiscent of many Belgian ales, but the taste was more earthy and robust than I expected. The bottle’s label suggests laying down for up to 5 years. If I got my hands on another bottle I would do just that.

Pours a nice dark golden amber colour with a thin white head. Fruity aroma with slight malty hints. Rather sweet flavour but some subtle sourness at the end. The further I got into the beer some slight piney tastes came to the forefront. First Goose Island product I’ve tried and very excited to try more.

Meio do caminho entre a Pale Ale, mas não tão amarga, e a Belgian, mas mais encorpada. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Transfer from BA review on 9-25-12- Poured from bottle into tulip glass Appearance - Pours a hazy orange-copper color with a nice two finger white head that receded quite rapidly. Once the head has faded, a moderate level of lacing is left on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of lighter fruit aromas of pear, banana, apple and peach. Mixed with these fruit aromas are notes of a yeasty smell as well as some spice aromas of clove and nutmeg. Rounding out all these are some aromas of a bready nature, which when combined with the rest create a very nice aroma overall. Taste – The taste begins with many of the fruit flavors that were also present in the nose. The apples, pear and peach which start are also accompanied initially by a biscuity flavor. Soon as the flavor advances however the yeast and spice show up bringing a yeast cake, banana, and classic yeast spice profile (clove and nutmeg) flavor to the tongue. In the end flavors of a more herbal and grapefruit citrus nature come to the tongue, leaving a sour and sweet (emphasis on the sweet) flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the slightly lighter side with the carbonation level being rather average. Both were quite fitting for the fruit flavors of the beer as well as the style. Overall – A nice fresh tasting Belgian strong pale. While not super “strong” it is smooth and flavorful. A good drinker and one to try if you get a chance.
