COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Toffee brown, medium-bodied, with a creamy head and an aroma of raisins and freshly baked dark bread. Mild Winterís rich caramel malt and spicy rye flavors are sure to take the bite out of whatever Old Man Winter brews up for you this year.

On tap at three Cellars on Goose Island Night. Aroma was mild sweet caramel malt,little hints of hopping,flavor was slightly sweet caramel malting and that distinct zing of rye. Iím surprised that previous reviews weenít tasting the rye,because it jumped out at me. Pleasant tasting malt,a perky hop and rye boost,very nice brew

bottle poured a light brown color with a thick one finger light tan head that retained well. aroma has sweet caramel, grains, light spice, and a bit of nuts. mouth feel is medium and the carbonation average. flavor has some brown malt, light bitterness, slight hops, and metallic touches. the rye does not carry tremendous weight here and the finish is somewhat flat with malt and bitterness.

Grainy, toasted malts, and sweet toffee aroma. Caramel malty sweet, spice and grains, buttered biscuits, all for flavors. Somewhat chewy mouthfeel. Not real complex but ok.

I simply had to have this beer when I realized it was based on a mild AND brewed with rye. On top of that, I am a firm believer that nothing bad has ever come from G.I.. Poured in a willybecher glass, this has a massive, firm, french vanilla colored head and a lovely brownish copper body that turns bright ruby against a light. The aroma does have a hint of spice, but smells mostly of sweet malt and caramel, with a firm herbal hop character. I must say I was a bit let down by the taste. I did not pick up more than an inkling of rye spice, and could find no similarity to a mild. What this beer does have though, is a lovely medium-bodied maltiness, and a very nice American hop finish. It is crisp and lively on the palate, with excellent drinkability (which I guess is one thing in common with mild ale.) The more I drank, the more it grew on me. (And the easier it went down....) Itís not awesome, and a little diff. than what I expected, but I must say that this a rather enjoyable session beer for all that itís worth, and I would much like to drink it again.

Didnít even know Goose Island made this beer until my roommate brought some home. Brown color. Thin head, with an aroma of malts and some spice. Kind of a sweet taste. Very interesting beer.

12 oz bottle. Thanks William. First rating in a while, glad the siteís back up! As for the beer...Not sure what to make of this one. Aroma and color is close to a Brown Ale, with just a small off-white head of foam. Mouthfeel is very smooth- pleasant. But- very sweet upfront, and then turns a bit sour & spicy towards the middle and finish, and then the sweetness kicks back in big-time and lasts and lasts and lasts. Hate to say this isnít a favorite of mine. Reminds me a bit of my homebrew right at the time Iím bottling it- very sweet, not much alcohol, and altogether unfinished.

33 cl bottle, Fargo, ND. Hazy brown colour, thin whispy head. Malty aroma, medium bodied with a caramel flavor and peppery finish. Interesting mid-winter offering (at least when I got it).

bottled on January 20, 2009, sampled at OíHare. Pours a brown hue, fairly clear. The aroma is heavily nutty with a burned chocolate note. The mouthfeel is medium light, I was expecting something even thinner. A little sugar, hazelnut, a dash of cotton candy, toast, and a rye finish make up the flavor. I was expecting a straight up mild ale, so I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Itís a reasonable drink.

noncaloric (684) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 24, 2009
Pours a slightly hazy amber to copper brown. A finger of off white head leaves generous lacing. The first sniff yields a pleasing malt aroma, slightly caramelized, but the nose quickly fades. Flavor is very nutty and distinctly bitter without much aroma hops. This comes off well here. Some orange peel and perhaps some cinnamon. Rye flavors emerge from the caramel malts in the finish, and thereís some weissbier banana-clove notes in the linger.
