Draft at Goose Island Clybourn. 5 oz. taster glass. Pours medium-dark brown, good lacing, goos head. Caramel and roasty aroma. Malty nose. Bitter chocolate, roasty flavors. Hoppy finish.

Clear dark amber pour with long-lasting bubbly white head. Malty aroma of biscuit with some toffee and fruit notes. Taste is in line with the aroma, some caramel and fruit with a mild rye spice on the finish. Pretty straightforward malty winter ale, but the rye notes add a little interest. Enjoyable, but nothing special.

Bottle: Pours a clear light amber with very little foamy white head [SRM 11] and poor head retention. No discernible hop aroma, mostly a faint roasty bread smell. First taste has slight hop bitterness with almost a grapefruit quality that is eventually followed by subtle rye and roasted malt flavors for balance. It has a medium body and finishes with a slick mouth feel. Goose Island calls this an American "Mild" Ale, ratebeer seems to classify it as a specialty grain. I’d call it more of an American Amber and rated it as such. It was a passable beer, but not as good as some of their other offerings.

Aroma a tad on the sweeter side, with hints of toffee. Pour a dark, dark tone with a nice, creamy head. Tastes lightly of malt, caramel with hints of sweetness. Medium bodies on the palate. Really good winter beer

Dark copper color with a thin off white/tan head. Left lots of lacing. Smell is of sweet malts and a hint of rye spiciness and a faint hopps aroma.Very good taste. There is a hop bitterness to start before giving way to the mild caramel malts.Very smooth and drinkable. Carbonation is just right.

Poured into Sam Adams Sensory Glass. Bottled on 10-21-08. Appearance is a copper orange. Pours an off white head that stays around for a while and leaves pretty good lacing. A rich malty smell is present, with rye. Taste is quite similiar, but the rye sticks out a lot more. It reminds me of wheat bread also. Mouthfeel is wonderful. It is so clean and just wanders aimlessly and goes down smooth. This beer is very easy to drink. Not my type of beer, but I was shocked by how much I actually liked it. This would make a nice session beer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 12-23-2008 18:39:47

Pretty copper pour. lots of spice in the nose. The taste doesn’t really reflect the spicy nose. lots of fruits, light on the bitter and hops. decent

Poured a nice deep red, with a large, foamy white head. Smells of malt, chocolate, and i got a very small hint of coffee. Tastes of mostly malt, not much else, and I didn’t get any sense of rye in this beer. Nice beer.
