Toffee brown, medium-bodied, with a creamy head and an aroma of raisins and freshly baked dark bread. Mild Winter’s rich caramel malt and spicy rye flavors are sure to take the bite out of whatever Old Man Winter brews up for you this year.

Biggish offwhite head. Deep brown body. Deep earthy malty aroma with peanuts and straw notes. Vivid and clear. Dry-sweetish strawy grainy earthy caramel taste with chocolatey notes. Rounded, smoothish mouthfeel. Fullish body. Dryish earthy roasty peas and wood aftertaste with caramelly notes. Excellent! (0.355l bottle, ?, CPH.)

On tap at Clybourn and had a bottle back home. The rye really does add a nice flavor. Everyone should give this beer a go.

Tap at Clybourn and served in a MBA pint glass, My #100 Goose Island rating!

Coppery to deep brown hue with a small lasting frothy off-white head and very good lacing. The aroma has notes of caramel, rye, papery and chalky oxidization, hint of apple, and spicy hop vapours. The taste is twangy acidic fruits and snappy rye bread. Some grassy and herbal hops balance the palate. The finish is part bread and allspice. The mouth feel is lively and sharp, very refreshing. Outside a weak nose this is a very good brew.

Objectively speaking: Spicy, malty and cerealic ale that lacks a bit of the usual Goose Island focus.
I like: Interesting (and surprisingly soft) orangey, earthy, tea-like hoppiness. Chewy cerealic maltiness. A bit chaotic fruitiness (grape, apricot) leans toward leather.
I dislike: Rather dull dark copper hue. The fun hops could certainly be bolder, the heavy rye would hold it up. More simple than expected.

Aroma is somewhat malty with chocolate and some metallic notes. Flavour is also malty with semi‐dark chocolate, some coffee, hints of hay and metallic notes. Drinkable.

I’ve never seen eyes so dilated! I could lose myself in them...

12 oz bottle six packs available in the Chicagoland area. A new early winter seasonal from Goose Island that apparently did a test run at the brewpub earlier in the year. Yay! Nice dark chestnut pour, largely clear, with a decent enough offwhite head that laces some. Aromas are muted, a touch of biscuity malt and some light hop notes. Taste is similar, very smooth and balanced, biscuity malts coupled with a more serious toffee bit, orange marmalade in the body, a touch of toasted malts, and a light herbal hoppiness. Extremely sessionable, very nice. Won a point overall because of the sheer fact that I really liked this beer and it’s subtle yet present character. Cheers!
