4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle. Pours a dark brownish black color with a small tan head that recedes leaving a ring and a small filmy island. Nose is hoppy with raisins and vanilla, the combination is intriguing and inviting, yet very hard to describe, almost too much going on to pinpoint one or two things that stand out. But the combo is very appealing. Almost like a weird foreign candy of sorts. The palate is slick and oily, a nice fizziness that tickles, finishes fairly clean with an aftertaste of the extra hops used. I am realizing now that the combination of extra, dry fruity hops mixed with the vanilla and chocolate stout just create this odd mixture that is real pleasant but hard to describe. The flavors of the beer include some gumballs, vanilla, big hop notes and bitterness, a light chocolate note with some malted milk balls, wow, I am just really enjoying this and feel I am doing it a disservice by trying to describe it. Im just going to enjoy it. Get yourself a bottle and do the same.

(22oz bottle) Pours a black body with a medium tan head. Aroma of licorice, roasted malt, fennel, chocolate, herbs, and pine. Flavor of roasted malt, grapefruit, chocolate, licorice, toffee, pine, florals, and coffee with a dry, moderately bitter finish. Excellent!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle purchased at friendly mini-mart. I was somewhat disappointed by this beer. I had through that Goose Island would be starting a serial killer-inspired beer line. Alas, its just an imperial stout with a cool name. Once I opened this thing I could smell the grassy hop character. Further inspection has roasted almonds, marshmallow, some clove, heavy roasted malts and more hoping bitterness. The flavor is a very bitter chocolate and hoppy one at first, but then it slides down a more viscous heavy stout flavor. Loads of roasted chocolate malt and a slight hit of coffee in the bitterness.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle pours a viscous, opaque black with a creamy, tan head. Close your eyes, smell the glass and you’d swear yo were smelling a double IPA. Aromas of flowers, candy, pine, citrus, orange juice, grapefruit. Flavor is sweet, brown sugar, citrus fruits, grapefruit. Full bodied. More of a double black IPA than an imperial stout, if there is such a category.

Bomber shared by Arbitrator on BA.
Pours darkest brown with a light brown head and good lacing.
Aroma is lots of hops - really hoppy for a stout - along with chocolate and roasted malt.
Flavor is really great. Really nice base stout, with flavors of caramel, toffee, chocolate, and roast (but really not that roasty at all for the style). Dry hopping evident, and considerable alcohol. The 11+% is not too well hidden.
Medium-full bodied and smooth on the palate, although the booziness cuts through this a little bit.
Very drinkable as this is really a well-crafted beer. Does not stand out in any one area but is interesting and really good on the whole.

Really nice, dank, hoppy nose; lots of citrus, some chocolate, licorice and roast as well. Taste is moderately sweet, lots of vanilla and licorice that just gets overbearing after a sip or two. The hopping is nice though. Cut the sweetness and the vanilla/licorice and this would be solid.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottled 3/6/10, rated 3/27/10. Pours pitch black with a tan head. Smells intensely hoppy, lots of flowers and pine, like a double IPA almost, with a tiny bit of alcohol burn on the nose. Taste has lots of sweetness, vanilla, alcohol and pinecone hops. Has a tinge of bitter roast on a finish largely dominated by vanilla and alcohol. If you blindfolded me I would have had trouble telling you this was an imperial stout, the hops crush everything.

Thanks to brainlair for sharing this one. Thick black pour. Lots of citrusy hops on the nose as well as roast and chocolate. Sweet roasted flavor with lots of hops. Very bitter boozy finish.
