4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Black. Small but very dark brown head that settles quickly to three bubbles. Aroma of brandy, dilute coffee, dark Hershey bar, prune. Thick and chewy, almost solid. Taste starts with dark cocoa and progresses to port, smoke, peat, raisins. As it warms, the hops really come through in the finish, without overwhelming the complexities of the stout itself. Rich stuff.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared at CBC - Clerkenwell, London - another big one from Seth! Pours black-brown with a creamy, tan head. Dark malt nose with burnt marshmallow and milk chocolate. Big sweet flavor, some dark malts, moderate roast, big alcohol, burnt sugars, some dark fruits, raisins and licorice. Full bodied with average to high, creamy carbonation. A bit of heat on the finish, more dark sugars, decent roast, robust earthy bitterness. It’s fairly hot. Very good, but not outstanding.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black with a dark brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, sugar and hoppy. Flavor is very sweet and rather bitter. Finishes bitter and with warming alcohol. Full bodied and oily. Just like the Bourbon County Stout this i too sweet and too alcoholic, though not as rough. Still a great beer though. 050311

Draught@RNH. Dark opaque black color, tiny brownish head. Aroma has coffee, wood and alcohol. Medium bodied. Lots of dark malts, rye bread, wood, and punch of alcohol. Sticky. It feels like aged in oak. Quite simple although somewhat tasty.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A: As the name would imply this beer is black as night with a moderate tan head.
S: A lot of citrusy hops (grapefruit in particular) which is an interesting contrast to the chocolate, roast, and coffee undertones of the imperial stout.
T: Quite a bit of roast, coffee, and chocolate. But, these are really masked a bit too much by the grapefruit hop flavors. That said, this is done more tactfully than Darkness 09. The alcohol presence is fairly minimized by the shear number of different flavors present in the beer.
M: The body is quite full with a moderate carbonation and smooth feel on the tongue.
D: I’ve been wanting to try this for a long time, and I was pleased by how it tasted. But, I think I would prefer this beer in 6 months to a year when the hops have died down.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, 11.7%. Weak roasted aroma, a little vinous with teaish hops. Black colour. Small dark brown head. The flavour is powerful, nice roasted note, good teaish hop flavour with a little bite to it. Quite sweet, but balanced nicely by the alcohol.
