Great Brown, the choice to brew with nuts give the beer a toasty warm fell. Dark walnut apperance in the glass, very easy to drink although for those who strongly have a distaste for an alcohol taste steer clear of this one. A great beer.

Deep, dark mahogany. Roasty-toasty nose. Rich and smooth, with a little nutty/caramel flavor. Clean finish, not overly exciting, but clean and non-cloying. Very flavorful and very easy to consume. NDmullet’s rating sums it up very well.

Nose is dominated by nutty, sweet malt, brown sugar, and maple. Head is initially cream colored, and the body is a nice deep mahogany. The malt profile is mostly nutty (walnuts), with a tinge of smoke towards the finish. Maybe not quite as complex as is possible for the style, but overall, a fantastic beer. I have try to have this one around all of the time.

A hard beer to rate. A definent alchohol scent in the aroma as well as malt. Great presentation from the bottle to the color itself. However, something in the taste wasn’t there for me. Maybe too complex for me at this stage but I thought it had a little too much alcohol taste. The after taste was better than the beer itself.

I was really impressed by this stuff, given that the cloying Newcastle Brown tends to be offered as the apotheosis of this style. Great, slightly sweet, roasted malt base, and Goose Island’s distinctive hopping make for a hell of a beer.

Very nice. Chocolatey, caramelly, and spicy. Nicely balanced with zingy hops. Brown color with red tints. Not full bodied, but still fills the mouth - very satisfying.

Aroma is welcoming, and good things happen from there. Sweet in front, hoppy in back, as desired. Subtle nuttiness doesn’t get in the way. Cool.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2003 A very impressive offering on cask. Nuttier than I could have ever imagined and very smooth. Maybe neeeded a bit more malt but nonetheless, a stupendous, accurate interpretation of a fine English brown.
