3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Pigfoot (2267) - Minneapolis, USA - OCT 10, 2004
A dark reddish brown color, and a small tan head. Aroma is soft, nutty, notes of caramel, toffee. Nice initial hop play on the palate, with solid malty sensation coming in from behind. Full-bodied and full of flavor. Warm, toasty, and tasty, the nut flavors continue through the finish. Well-textured and satifying, a perfectly delicious ale. Great craft-brews like this really show up the naked emperors of the big beer world, like the dismal, thin Newcastle.

Date: May 26, 2012 Mode: Bottle Source: Ale Jail Description: Semi-opaque dark brown pour with some head. Aroma was caramel, nutty and chocolate. Taste was consistent with aroma and had a slight bitter finish. Medium bodied with some carbonation. Bottled 3/14/12.

Pours a ruby-reddish brown with fairly large light brown head (which dissipates rather quickly). Aroma is roasted malt and chocolate, maybe a little burbon-vanilla. Taste is mildly sweet at first, with a hint of sourness, and a bitter finish. Can detect the alcohol. Body is medium, not too heavy. Overall ok, not something I would seek out. Need to expand my nut-brown horizons so I actually have something to compare this to.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 kdm1984 (139) - Missouri, USA - MAY 9, 2012
Smells dark chocolate; pours medium brown with decent head and minimal lacing. Tastes dark chocolate, roasty, bit of toffee. Bready, malty aftertaste. Light-bodied, though - a tad more watery than I might prefer. Nice alternative to the skunkier Newcastle Brown Ale while still fitting the style more than, say, the somewhat tastier but more porter-like Abita Turbodog.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Onslow (712) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - APR 27, 2012
Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Clear brown brew - reddishw ehn held up to light - with ample tan head. Aroma of raosted malt and chocolate. Taste is light sweet malts with chocolate overtones, some dark fruit, transitioning to a more roasted grain taste with a slightly bitter finish that completely slakes the sweetness. Very well crafted, very fine.

12 oz. bottle, pours a clear dark mahogany with a medium beige head. Aroma of toasted nuts, some subtle butterscotch and caramel bready malts. Flavour of fairly rich caramel / toffee upfront, brown sugar, with a nutty / cashew-like finish. Pretty flavourful and smooth for a ~5% session brown ale - very enjoyable.

On tap, pours a very dark brown color, lacing is a full sheat of white foam, large head. Aromas of chestnuts, cashews, chocolate, honey, and tobacco. Taste is caramel soaked chocolate, ash, brown sugar, and a cashew aftertaste. Smoth as can be. Awesom session brown ale.

Purchased at Binny’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed after a long trip to Germany where I drank nothing but 3 different types of beers. This was a welcome home brew. Appearance a dark brown amber with a thin off white rim. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, nuts, hops, a lot of ingredients. Taste is incredibly smooth, moderate body and lightish carbonation, nice nutty finish, very light bitterness. It’s already gone, and now I’m sad. Very happy to have this back in production.

Draught. Deep, rich brown color. Pleasant, mild aroma. Mouthfeel a, little thin. Goes down nice and easy. Mild nutty flavor. Does not overwhelm the palate, left me wanting a little more.
