On tap at the Great Taste of the Midwest (8/9/08): Pours a transparent bright copper orange with a thin-lacing white head. Aroma of fresh grapefruity citrusy hops and good oaky flavor. Body starts fairly full and caramely sweet with good fresh grapefruity hoppiness and good oaky balance. A nice oak aged IIPA.

It took a few sips for me to be sure if I liked this. It was a bit sweet with a peach, apricot taste along with the usual grapefruit undertones. It had a complex, pine nuts, mixed with cedar, and a smooth bitterness. Overall very nice.

This poured a deep golden body, slightly hazed, with a small white head. The nose was dominated by the hops - grapefruit, tropical fruit, and a touch of pine. Just a bit of sweet caramel squeaked through. The flavor was a bit more complex, with elements pof the wood coming in - a touch of oak, some vanilla - none of it too great to subdue the hoppy bitterness, now swinging more towards the citrus side. Nice dry, bitter finish. Not too shabby.

On tap at FoBAB 2007. Poured a clear orange gold with a white head. Aroma is cat pissy. Piney floral hops. Flavor is caramels with lots of hops. Piney citrus, lemony. Lasting piney bitterness with oak around it. Palate seemed a bit watery to me. I wanted more malt to back up that heavy bitterness, still decent.

On tap at FoBAB 5. Poured clear, brilliant coppery-amber with a short off-white head.. looked good! Sweet grapefruit stood out in the aroma with lesser caramel behind.. full and rich with great balance and subtle oak influence. The flavor was sweet and creamy with deep grapefruit and caramel at the core.. increasing pine bitterness toward the back that peaked at the finish.. dry, lightly sour oak was well-integrated.. very well-balanced and damn tasty! Creamy and medium-bodied on the palate with higher bitterness.. the wood mellowed it out a tad, and made this dangerously drinkable!

FoBAB 2007: Slightly hazed deep goldenrod hue with an initial large frothy head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of sharp fruity hops (grapefruit, mango) resiny and woody, very earthy with a note of caramelized malt for good measure.

The taste is surprisingly balanced with a solid amount of hop bitterness still found with a tannic dryness upon the finish. There can be found some malty qualities too, more biscuity than the caramel found one the nose. A tad spicy on the aftertaste. I wonder if this barrel was not dry-hopped or something since the hops are still so powerful. A very nice brew indeed. (they should bottle this!)
