Bottled, 350ml from Favourite Beers, Cheltenham, Gloucs. Black with tan head. Full, rich, coffee, charry notes straight from the off, despite it’s temperature. Some fruitiness to give depth, A really decent stout.

12oz pour at tasting. Excited to try this one, Goose plus oatmeal, mmmm. Nice black pour, looks viscous and smooth like an OS should. Very roasty on the nose with a little sweetness. Palate is super smooth and balanced, silky and thick, but sessionable. The cocoa and cream is delicious. One of my new favorite GI and oatmeal offerings.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into a tall glass.
Appearance: Very dark, opaque brown (borderline black) with nice light brown head and slight lacing.
Aroma: Roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee and a touch of oats.
Taste: Roasted malts with chocolate, light coffee, oats, and a slight spicy and bitter finish.
Palate: Moderate carbonation, smooth medium body, a little too much texture for my liking, semi-dry finish.
Overall: Very solid example of an Oatmeal Stout. While there are some better ones out there, this will be missed in Goose Island’s lineup.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2011 Pours dark brown with thin head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, sweet chocolate, and brown sugar. Taste is chocolate, brown sugar, molasses, with just a hint of roasted malt character. Nice creamy finish. Pretty good.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 otakuden (1490) - Vero Beach, USA - AUG 24, 2011
Appearance: black and burnt browns masquerading as black. Khaki head with a solid collar surrounding a pocket of bubbly fluff. Swirls thick and creamy with scattered lace.
Nose: roasted chocolate and fudge. Dark fruits and breads in the back – black bread, pumpernickel. Bakers chocolate. Vanilla bean root. Burnt wood – fire pit and smoldering firewood under and in the finish. Roasted and mulled oaks dipped in chocolate fondue.
Palate: creamy cakey chewy oaty mouthfeel. Fudge. Chocolate coated toasted oats. Oats and chocolate in sweet creamy vanilla harmony. Mild twang of tartness in back and underneath – lingers on the tip of tongue: grape and plum skins. Barks of fudge. Love the interplay of chocolaty tart dark fruits. Malted chocolate malt. Vanilla root, campfire, and ash.
Final Thoughts: another delicious contribution from Goose Island out of Chicago, Illinois. A breakfast and dessert beer all in one.

Pours dark brown with a tint of red. Very sweet-- dark chocolate and roasted, almost sugary coffee as promised-- so much as to render it hard to drink more than one. Not too much hops.

12 ounce bottle courtesy of TheGuy and opened 6/22/11. Thanks! Pours a very dark brown color with a thin fizzy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of oats, roasted malts and a bit of molasses. The taste is sweet roasted malts, cola, nuts, oatmeal and a bitter hoppy finish. Medium bodied. Decent beer.
