Brewed in the traditional Märzen style our Oktoberfest pours a brilliant copper over rose color with a bone white head. Notes of toffee and burnt sugar in the aroma and flavors of sweet dried apricots are delivered in a dry malty body with the mild earthy bitterness that is the hallmark of Hallertau hops.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear, medium-amber color with a very small, light-tan head that dissipates quickly. Strong scents of caramel, toffee, and apricot. It is slightly sweet with flavors of toffee, apricot, and maybe a little orange peel. It has a medium body that is slightly creamy. Carbonation is average, with the finish being quick and on the bitter side. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this beer, as I was not expecting too much from it. Certainly, not one of the best beers I’ve had, but definitely enjoyable.

The rye is quite distinct in the smell, as is malt. However, the scent is not as spicy/floral as a lot of its competitors. The body is fairly light, and thus, it’s a very drinkable brew. The taste leaves something to be wished for as there isn’t much to it except malt. None of the complexity or subtlety that one might expect from a better example of the style.

Dark copper pour with tan head. Some earthy, caramel, nutty, and toffee in the nose. Tastes like a standard marzen, with more nuttiness.

Bottle from Whole foods PM. The label looks a bit different. Pours hazy deep coppery toward ruby with frothy, off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, nuts, some hops. Tastes caramel malty, nutty, earthy, with some hops and dark fruit late.

Pours an amber color. Thick rich beige head, about two fingers. Very nice lacing.

Aroma is fruity, don’t know that I would call it apricot. Yeasty bread, and alcohol. It is earthy also.

Taste is a little caramel. A little more bitter than most marzens. Again it’s fruity, but don’t know that I would call it apricot. Yeah, if I smack my mouth enough, I can get apricot. It’s not super malty. Pretty well balanced. It leaves a metallic aftertaste. I can also taste the alcohol a little.

Mouthfeel is medium-full. Slightly bitter. Highly drinkable. A slightly oily feeliing.

Overall, I like it okay. It’s a little different, but that’s good. If you’re going to make the same ol, same ol, why bother. I think it could stand a little more of the apricot. The bitterness was unexpected, but it works okay. I like the marzen style a lot because of the sweeter malt heavy profile. But this isn’t bad at all. I think it’s worth a try.

On tap at ATR Bethesda. Nice amber body with slight head. Nose of caramel, toffee, coffee, some fruits. Taste also malty, caramel with fruits. And then a bitter finish. Quite enjoyable.

This beer does not stand up to other Oktoberfest beer o would suggest going a different route
