Brewed in the traditional Märzen style our Oktoberfest pours a brilliant copper over rose color with a bone white head. Notes of toffee and burnt sugar in the aroma and flavors of sweet dried apricots are delivered in a dry malty body with the mild earthy bitterness that is the hallmark of Hallertau hops.

This is the new recipe bottled by AB-InBev. Old entries for the earlier bottled and Brewpub version are located here: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/goose-island-oktoberfest-brewpub-recipe/6808/

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 12 oz bottle. Medium copper pour, quickly fading light off-white head. Aroma of ripening vegetables, a touch of toffee. Flavor has some caramel sweetness, some ripening vegetables, a hint of sweet toffee. Mouthfeel has a nice decent thickness to it. Does in a pinch.

Pours a clear copper with not much head. Faint aromas of sugary malts and that’s about it. Flavor is a bit malty, with a hint of funky. Not bad, pretty drinkable, but also a bit of a safe entry into the style.

I have a rating entered for Goose Island Okfoberfest "Brewpub Recipe" and I have no idea what that entry was about because I didn’t have it at their brewpub. Either way, this rating belongs here and it seems a different, when comparing my notes here vs the old one. This is close to a true marzen, rich and chewy with toffee melanoidin malts, borders into sweet stone fruit. Tobacco and spicy hop notes at the end but overall sweet and maltty. Deep bronze color. I’m out of practice with malt heavy beers so I’m not sure if this features too much crystal malt or if that’s vienna. I used to drink so many sweet brown lagers but now those malt heavy beers are far less common than they used to be, everything is dominated by pale malts these days.

12 ounce bottle. Clear amber, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of toasted malts and citrus. The taste is berries, toasted malt, mild caramel, herbal notes. Thin bodied.

Pours into my AB glass kind of a dark brown with a hint of red. Very lively carbonation and a nice, thick, tan head that lasts and leaves some nice lacing. Taste is heavy on malt. Lots of apricot. No real hops to speak of but not surprising. Finish is very toasty. The carbonation fits the beer well and it has a nice medium body. I think this fits well in the style!

Bottle. Deep, clear copper color with medium off-white head. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, and dried fruits. Medium body and carb. Sweet malty flavor with hints of fruit and slight bitterness. Not bad, but not great.

12 oz bottle. Poured a clear copper color with a beige head that lasted throughout and minimal lacing. Taste of caramel malts, roasted malts, toffee, with a noticeable alcohol presence. Fizzy carbonation, medium body, creamy texture.

From he 12 fl. oz. bottle. The pour is brown with a modest light colored head that fades. Aroma is very sweet and malty. Low profile hops. The body is just about medium but rather smooth. The taste is quite sweet with a sort of mossy grassy character. Although there are little in he way of hops. I just could not think of another way to describe it.
