The best domestic and imported German malts are used to produce our delicate yet complex bottom fermented lager. Its sweet maltiness dominates the palate but leaves behind a subtle, clean hop finish. Each batch of our Oktoberfest is cold lagered ensuring optimal enjoyment in the finest old-world tradition.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2007 (GI is discontinuing this beer, and all lagers I believe. Harvest Ale will replace Oktoberfest. This review is of Harvest Ale.) Hazy copper with decent head / Burnt sugar and hop nose / Medium body with big, creamy hopping and strong finish / Flavors of burnt sugar with light pineapple undertones and a little lemon on the finish / Outstanding - maybe most comparable to an American Pale Ale.

A great seasonal from this brewery. Wonderful bronze color. Tons of malt backbone, well balanced with the brewery’s characteristic floral hops. A ’find a comfortable chair and have a few’ beer.

UPDATED: NOV 10, 2006 Goose Island Oktoberfest 12 oz bottle Recent bottling, cherished 09/06 Medium pour in a pint glass. Poured a clear light reddish brown with a small rocky off-white mostly diminishing off white head with fair lacing. Smelt of moderate roasted grain and light caramel, with tinges of mild coffee and a hint of spicy hoppiness. Taste was upfront light swwet toasted grain and mild coffee bitterness followed by sweet dark bread maltiness and spicy and flowery subtle hops on a lingering finish. Mouthfeel was medium/light, slightly oily, with lively carbonation. Overall, the most flavorful Oktoberfest I’ve had so far.

Malty and smooth with a hint of spice. No discernable off flavors like some similar beers. Very drinkable, one of my favorite Goose Island beers.

bigdogbrewing (9) - Delaware, Ohio, USA - OCT 14, 2005 does not count
Aroma- Nice rich malt nose. Some caramel but really nice and clean; not fruity. No hop aroma. Appearance- deep dark amber with nice orange highlights. Bright and clear. Flavor- Malt right up front from start to finish. Nice easy melanoidan flavor. Nice balance beetween malt and bitterness. No hop flavor (ok for style). Mouthfeel - medium body with great carbonation. Overall- Very well made beer and great example of style. If you like malt this is a beer for you.

Ahktoberfest. As in, ahh, that hit the spot! I’m not usually a fan of sweetness in brew, unless there’s a fine complex accompaniment, and this one has it.

UPDATED: SEP 18, 2003 2003 - What have you done to this beer, Greg Hall?!? In 2001, this was a wonderfully unique, spicy and hoppy O-Fest. Last year's version was more malty but still had some of the spice and hops. This year, much to my dismay, the spice and hops are gone, and now it is an ordinary malty O-fest. Good, but not special. If anybody has an '01, send it to Josh so he can see how good it used to be. My numerical ratings remain those from '02. 2002 - Forgive Vikingbeau for his failure to appreciate the appearance of any beer not Budweiser yellow. I think his colorphobia lends a clue as to the source of brewer's fears that krisbierjaeger referred to several ratings earlier. I thought this brew had a wonderful appearance...it's murky orange/brown hue is unique, with only a mostly disappating head keeping it from a perfect score in the category. I had G-Island's O-Fest for the 1st time last season and fell deeply enamored of it, waiting with anticipation for the Fall of this year to have my second opportunity. A pall fell over my first two sips, as I immediately concluded that G-Island had sold out to the malt-fest that is every other O-fest. But alas, as it warmed, it brought back that beautifully well-balanced malt/hop mix that I remembered so fondly. The best O-fest I have ever had.

Not bad if not quite the quality of a real German beer. It has the flavor right though, with the nice-sweet sour malty taste of an oktoberfest.

Pours with the golden copper of bronzed and ripened leaves and a light head. The arom is heavy, sweet and ladden with the scents of autumn and pumpkin pie. The flavor is carmel malts, cinnamon, a hint of apple and a rich, bold hop quality. The palate is smooth, clean and very harmonious with the season. Goose Island consistently produces a quality product and this is no exception. I am rating this higher than most rater, but I can’t find any reason to subtract. Oktoberfests need not be heavy, deep and dominating. Because I consumed this beverage while watching the Presidential Debate I would liken this beer to one John Kerry. You know, elegant, informative and marginally inspiring. As opposed to Bush-style (Busch-style) beers that are flat, bland, oafish and dispensed shamelessly to the innocent and ignorant masses.
