Bottle shared by thickfreakness. Thanks Charles! Pours reddish amber with a short lived beige head. Smell is tart, oxidized caramel. Taste is dark, tart bitter caramel with the slightest tang. So-so, and not terrible, but this bottle was on its way downhill.

Bottle... Pre-C&P’sLYFO Throwdown... Mostly clear amber ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. Fruity esters and caramel malt comprise the nose. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Caramel sweetness flanks moderate bitterness and a whisper of acidity. Crisp, bittersweet, malty finish.

Tap at Clybourn - RIP. Smells so much like Bourbon County that we checked about 5 times to see if it was aged. Very deep red, thickly sweet and sour at once. Real gritty barley and rye notes. Old Abe is not going quietly...
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 pantanap (3153) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 27, 2008
tap at GI Clybourn... dark reddish amber brown pour, just penetrable by light, with a medium frothy light beige head...
aroma has a more assertive dark fruit component to it. very little hops and mostly sweetened malt....
rich, sweet, caramel flavors. the middle keeps the sweeter profile and finishes with an apparent and mild sharp bitterness. nice full body with mild carbonation. slightly warming. a really nice barleywine...
also had this side by side with the cask version which had a more transparent color to it. huge difference in tast in that the hop bitterness was hugely pronounced when compared with it’s sibling off the regular tap. less malty and sweet. def. favor the regular version to this one.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 BeerBunker (709) - Burbank, Illinois, USA - NOV 20, 2008
On tap at GI Clybourn. Poured a deep red with a small tan head. Aroma is of malt, sweet hops, spice, and alcohol. Nice malty taste, with a delicious super hoppy backbone. Notes of spice and raisins. Deep warming alcohol presence. Creamy mouthfeel that goes down smooth, without being too intense. Insanely drinkable. My only complaint is that it needed less sweetness and more alcohol face punching.
