3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample at GI Weigleyfield. Outfoxxed listed as an American brown ale I'd have called it a stout or porter with its dark brown color, smooth velvety mouthfeel and solid toffee/coffee taste. A really nice surprise.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at the brewpub. Ms. phaleslu ordered this one. Pours way darker than typical brown ales, nearly opaque and very dark brown. Small beige head. Roasted and toasted malts, tobacco, earth, cocoa, dark and milk chocolate, hazelnut, and a bit of ash. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a surprisingly roasty mouthfeel. Rich. Even some hop presence. Basically a stout at this point.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tap at the brewpub. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy long lived off-white head. The aroma is weak resin and malt. The flavour is medium bitter with a resin, somewhat unpleasant bitter bitter palate and finish. I didn’t like this at all and I’m not sure who would.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a deep brown with a tannish head. Slight haze. Nose is quite nutty and strongly roasty. Toasted with some faint char-like notes, charcoal. On tasting, some light caramel and big roast. Big and creamy with a drying roasty finish. One dimensional overall and lacking a big nuttyness.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Flight on tap at Goose Clybourn (Chicago, IL). Pours a deep brownish ruby hue, gentle haze, midnight ruby bottom and edges. A frothy tannish head sits atop, a firm film that laces well. Good color and head retention. Aromas offer toast and biscuit, a bit of molasses and nutty elements. Carmelized malts, bread, and toastiness. Cocoa, with some hazelnut, earth, and chocolate sweetness tang. Initial is medium bodied, a touch of girth, with cocoa and carmelized malts, very toasty on the palate with firm bakers cocoa, toasty malts, and nutty elements coming through. Middle is where that starts to take off, almost gaining a bit of body back there. Cocoa, cereal and biscuity grains, toffee and some caramel. A bit of thickness, with caramel, a bit more toffee. Toasty, maple, sticky sweetness. A bit girthy. A bit sweet into the back. Ok. Aroma is good. A bit sweet.
