Tap at the brewpub. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy long lived off-white head. The aroma is weak resin and malt. The flavour is medium bitter with a resin, somewhat unpleasant bitter bitter palate and finish. I didnít like this at all and Iím not sure who would.

Draft sampled at Goose Island Clybourn. Pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of big roast, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel and toffee. Flavour is over moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Pours a deep brown with a tannish head. Slight haze. Nose is quite nutty and strongly roasty. Toasted with some faint char-like notes, charcoal. On tasting, some light caramel and big roast. Big and creamy with a drying roasty finish. One dimensional overall and lacking a big nuttyness.

Flight on tap at Goose Clybourn (Chicago, IL). Pours a deep brownish ruby hue, gentle haze, midnight ruby bottom and edges. A frothy tannish head sits atop, a firm film that laces well. Good color and head retention. Aromas offer toast and biscuit, a bit of molasses and nutty elements. Carmelized malts, bread, and toastiness. Cocoa, with some hazelnut, earth, and chocolate sweetness tang. Initial is medium bodied, a touch of girth, with cocoa and carmelized malts, very toasty on the palate with firm bakers cocoa, toasty malts, and nutty elements coming through. Middle is where that starts to take off, almost gaining a bit of body back there. Cocoa, cereal and biscuity grains, toffee and some caramel. A bit of thickness, with caramel, a bit more toffee. Toasty, maple, sticky sweetness. A bit girthy. A bit sweet into the back. Ok. Aroma is good. A bit sweet.

Sampled at Clyborn. Pours a clear dark brown with a dark brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a nice coffee note with underlying roasted malts and bitter chocolate. Flavor starts with coffee and bitter chocolate and roasted malts in the finish.

Draft. A tasty brown ale, alot of coacoa and nuttiness in this one, almost feels liek a mini impy stout.

4 ounce taster at the Clybourn Goose Island brewpub. Brown appearance, durable foam on top, little carbonation. Aroma of smoke, hazelnuts, toast and malted barley. It had an assertive flavor package that matched the aroma: smokey, nutty, earthy, mildly sweet. Overall this one was bigger than I expected and was well worth a try, sitting right on that line of strong and still good for a full glass-worth.

Pitch black, no head, some creamy lacing. Sweet toasted and chocolate aroma. Medium body. Sweet malt, chocolate, toasted bitter ending. Real nice.
