Brewed originally at our pub in 2008, we “forgot” about this lost barrel in our cellar and are unveiling it only for this special event. The roasted and spicy pepper notes of our black saison hide behind the funky Brett backbone and lactic sourness.

Goose island pepe claussenii... Pours a deep minerally dark cola brown, dark/smooth almost porter like, topped with a thin light off- white head... Aroma of tart brett jumps out without needing to put nose close to the glass. Sour cherry and vinegar also play along... Flavors follow suit just as nice with an alluring tart component that turns earthy with more texture as you work through the sip. Signs of a light vinegar come into play as well almost like a mellow Flemish red. Haven’t had the pepe Nero but I’m assuming this is a vast improvement. 8/4/8/4/16

On tap at the Hop Leaf for the Goose Island Invasion, served in a chalice with a deep brown color and ruby tones showing through a good clarity. The head was a modest amount of off white foam that left some Belgiany, web-like lacing. The aroma was Bretty yeast, some toasted qualities, light spice, fruit sweetness and tartness. The flavor continued these with the Brett nicely under control, stepped up tartness and vinous characteristics, and moderate hop bitterness that coupled with some pleasant dryness into the finish.
