Bottle from Cherry Reds, Kings Heath. The start of my rustic day. Dark, delicious, and rather lovely. Bit too chilled but then we were sitting outside. Mussels are cooking, wine is flowing, love Sundays like this.

2012 bottle. Pours cloudy light amber with no head or lacing. Nose is plums and maybe some lemon. Notes of plums, lemons, yeast, some butterscotch. Tastes medium to high sweet and no bitterness. Body is light creamy with no carbonation. An odd duck, but enjoyable. He interesting to try a younger version.

It pours deep mahogany almost opaque, with ruby highlights; the head is beige and marshmallow-like. The aroma has notes of: plums, pepper, sour cherries, roasted malts, and slight tobacco (some sort of wood-like characteristic). The taste is medium spicy that finishes very light sweet and light sourness; there are notes of: plums, charcoal, pepper, rye sourness, and coffee. The palate is medium bodied, slick, almost no carbonation, slightly oily, and a long spicy rye finish. Overall, very interesting - it grows on you.

My third bottle of this great wacky saison/bier de garde - it grows on you - forget convention here is a ale with farmhouse roots that sould grace the table at special occasions. Deep clear brown with ruby highlights, massive tn cap lasts and laces your glass. Very subtle noe - some roasty sweetness and grassiness. Flavour is really unique, rasty , nutty but with some hints of fruit , hops sit back and guide the brew to the finish which is lightly hopped , cocoa and a light sweetness in the finish - if you don’t use this ale to wash down some red meat yer nutz!

2011 bottle to a tulip glass. Color was dark brown/black with some crimson highlight. Big, effervescent tan head that keeps coming. Aroma is roasted, slightly smoky malt with some spice and pepper. Taste is the same with undertones of dark fruits and a distinct peppery taste, reminiscent of peppercorns. Full, slightly creamy mouthfeel with lots of carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from 12 oz. bottle after cellaring for 13 months. Opening the bottle produced plenty of foam and effervescence, probably the product of secondary fermentation. Opaque, deep dark brown with a large, billowing khaki head and good lacing. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, yeast, Riesling grapes, raisins and rye bread. Taste of roasted malt, coffee, yeast, white grapes, peat, funkiness and mild sweet dark fruit. Medium/light body and high/medium carbonization. Overall, this brew comes across as a saison/imperial stout chimera. It is best thought of as a saison with strong dark roast elements. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Blue Dog in Chalfont, PA. Did not expect this type of smokiness in a Saison, but I was very impressed with how well it worked. A surprisingly good beer.

Served tulip glass at Blue Dig. They call it a farmhouse ale. Very nice. Black with beautiful creamy lacing. Note malt, coffee and a hint of sour as it finishes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Poured an unfiltered dark brown color with a frothy tan top and superb lacing. Taste of roasted malt, pepper, dried fruits, smoky finish. High fizzy carb, medium creamy body.
