Very light smell, malty, carbonated, nothing unique behind the up front maltiness, decent

12oz bottle - A really nice, albeit different, beer. Unlike an America Black Ale, which still maintains most of an IPA characteristics, this didn’t maintain many saison characteristics, let alone just a few. This could have been some kind of smoked ale to be quite honest, but it was tasty. Aroma light/medium cofee and a touch of dark chocolate, some soy, a bit earthy but mostly coffee and earthy. Out of left field comes a smokey/peaty flavor, combining with the coffee note (which isn’t very pronounced), some soft spice and a bit of coca-cola thrown in there makes this pretty intriguing. I definitely enjoyed it and look forward to my other 3 bottles.

(Rating #5835)

Bottle from deeside drinks emporium. Bottled on 15/01/2013 Pours an almost jet black with a off white head which slowly fades. Excellent lacing. Aromas of smoke, boozy plum and a little of that typical Belgian whiff. Flavour is a smokey treacle with a slight peppery hint. Has a nice sweetness to the finish that resembles a boozy plum again. Lovely intricate beer.

February 2013 bottle drank in September 2014. 1.5 years old. Dark brown with a red tint, with a disappearing, frothy, thin, creamy head. Nice sweet smell of malt with rye, prunes and a peppery, smokey sour cherry touch. Caramel. Medium to full oily body with no carbonation. A slight dry finish. Initial taste of bitter nut with a caramel middle and a cherry yeasty, liquorice finish. Leaves the mouth with a sour prune lingering. I never thought of a saison like this. Very easy to drink and super excited aged some more.
