3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle from a 4 pack. 2010 vintage. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, dried fruit and dark rye bread. Tastes like Malt with light citrus, yeast, and light spice (pepper mostly). Medium bodied. Malt and caramel lingers in the finish. Has an almost smoke like element in it as well. This was a interesting brew. I drank 2 bottles with ease. I would drink again. I have no idea how the 2011 version fairs.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark and smooth malty flavors, too smooth, there should be some kind of spice note, that pepper really not coming through in the aroma or taste, but I do feel a minor pepper like tingle in throat, pleasant enough ,but non-distinctive

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Big peppery nose with some kinda sweet saison notes. At first tasted like a regular saison but quickly dropped some soft chocolate and lighter roasted or singed flavor. Had all of the quirky spices you’d expect and a very nice yeast that sticks to your tongue, and plenty of hops. I liked it and it was very interesting to combine the flavors. Would pair well with food, by its self it is nice. When it warmed up the rye gave it a weird flavor, much better cold.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
I was a bit dissapointed by this beer. It wasnt bad but it wasnt really good either. I love saisons and by the description this sounded amazing. The flavors were light very very light and watery. I didnt get much of the roasted/smoky malt character described in the description. It just tasted to me like a below average saison that happened to be black in color.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
tap and bottle-dark amber hue with a small tan head. nose of chalk, belgian yeast twang and some dark spices. very robust for being 6% i would have guessed at least 8. a lot of belgian funky yeast on the finish but not really in the beginning of the palate. some dark fruit becomes apparent as it warmed a bit. some sour grains as well. the saison notes come out more with a warmer temperature. decent beer and glad i got to try it.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the ACBF. Dark brown with a tan head that leaves a nice lace. Roasted coffee and an almost meaty smoke quality, licorice. Deeply roasted coffee on the palate with a nice funkiness. Finishes with bitter coffee. The body was a little light for the taste.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle. Just checking things off my Chicago trip and Goose Island was up there. This wasn’t a tradition saison. Dark brown pour with a thin head. Peppery aroma with hints of spice. Easily drinkable and not tough on the palate. Would try again.
