3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pour is darker brown with a finger-wide light tan head that fades very quickly. Belgian yeast and peppercorn break through the aroma with a strong backing of roasted malts. Flavor is more on the smoked side with hints of chocolate, molasses, and burnt wood. Some Belgian spice in the finish. Interesting beer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, 6%. Very slow gusher. Light fruity nose, slightly roasted. Very dark brown colour, seems clear. Quite stable light brown head. The flavour starts off slightly roasted, turns a little yeasty. Finishes with a sort of citric note.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I picked the right glass for this foamy pour - a widemouth Belgian goblet. Slightly irritating aroma of yeast and lemon peel - but it tastes very good. Fairly sweet and complex flavor - molasses, dates, apricot, a bit of citrus, and a lightly sharp finish. The label says it is a Belgian ale, but here it is described as a rye saison. Either way, it is good stuff.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours medium brown with a lofty lingering head. Smells of coffee bean and mocha. Medium nectar with ample residual effers. A mild to moderate roast intertwined with cocoa and a bit of spice. The finish lingers and has a nice bittering component. The brew is a bit fizzy with insignificant features.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from State Line. Pours burnt sienna with 1-finger splotchy off-tan head. Nose is nice; apple, cacao, spicy peppery, hops, a combo that shouldn’t work but does. Tastes medium as far as complexity and palate heft, with dark malt, cacao, black pepper, spicy florals, slight funk, and hops. Altogether works as well as any dark saison or dark hoppy beer of any style that I have yet quaffed. Well done.
