A black rye saison that combines a roasted/smoky malt character in balance with a pepper spice from the yeast. Finishes dry with a refreshing level of carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a red hued clear slightly effervescent brown with a full creamy light tan head. Aroma is mildly sour and fruit sweet with a rich roasty malt. Nicely balanced flavor with some tart bitterness, a dry roasty body and a light sourness. Lively biting carbonation with a medium body. Nice.

Thanks Bill for sending. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a dark brown ranging close to black in color with a creamy close to off white colored slim foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. Light lacing strings in and out along the glass. The smell had a light pepper spice over top of a smoky yeasty/slightly breadiness. The taste was pretty much the same with a slight added roasted nutty note to lead to a semi-sweet smoky and yet spicy aftertaste that’s very nice. There was a semi-dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a tolerable sessionability about it. The carbonation is so smooth and helps to lead to creamy palatable quality rolling over my tongue. Overall, I’d say that this was a very good dark saison. I’d definitely have it again.

Terrible example of the style. Tasted more like a stout then anything else. Shame.

Thick rye flavor. 2011 bottle. Spice and sweetness are balanced. Enjoying the smoothness. Deep color. Says 6% but since it was a 2011 I think it has increased. Very good.

Bottle @ Three Notch’d Tasting. Browish pour with a small off-white head. Aroma of red apples and earthy toast. Flavor of yeasty fruits. Toasted grain and spice. Mellow sweet finish. Medium body, active carbonation. Pretty forgettable, but decent.

Pours dark amber with small tan head out of bottle. Aroma of malt and spice. Flavor similar to smell but with characteristics of an amber ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I home brewed a dark bitter saison that this reminded me a whole lot of. Except this had some age on it, and it was crisp. So basically my home brew plus aged and mashed at a lower temp. Gonna nail it.
