3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Hansen (4635) - Assentoft, DENMARK - MAR 3, 2012
Light brown and unclear. Has an off-white head, medium duration. Aroma is sweet, fruity, malty, sugars, faint yeasty. Heavy sweet flavor, harmonic, but too sweet, lacks some bitterness. Syrupy texture and flat carbonation.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 benpickens (303) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - MAR 2, 2012
Amber red with frothy head; caramel and crystal malt aromas. Chalky mouthfeel with a sweet finish; no hop discernible. Reminds me more of a doppel bock and inferior version of Salvatore

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 frpilz (47) - Illinois, USA - FEB 25, 2012
Caremel, lighter body than it looks, easy drink then the fun starts. Citrusy tart entrence, smooths out to a medium full roasted but not bitter finish. tasted bigger than the IBU rating it has. Bold seasonal ale.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 KickInChalice (772) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 23, 2012
From notes. First reviewed 4/28/2010. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip. Bottle date 6/2/09.
Out of the bottle, Pere Jacques pours a hazy brown amber color, with a medium fluffy white head. Decent retention, but the head eventually fades to a ring around the glass. No noticeable lacing.
Sweet caramel malt, ripe plums and figs, slightly medicinal alcohol aroma, yeasty Belgian spiciness.
The flavor starts and stays sweet all the way through. Combined with the emerging alcohol, there is a boozy candy sensation. Spice from the Belgian yeast and some dark fruit flavors enter the mix. Mild hop presence at the end, still accompanied by a varied palette of spices. Too sweet for me.
The mouthfeel is a bit strange. It starts a bit crisp, but after the alcohol comes through in the taste, it develops an almost watery presence. It feels like it slides down my throat. Carbonation seems a bit low.
It is definitely a beer with a nice level of complexity, but I am not sure if the flavors all mesh together well enough for me. One is probably sufficient before moving on.

Deep red-amber-brown. Cherry, brown sugar, and light banana. Also some booze. Flavor is relatively sweet with some caramel, brown sugar, light molasses, cherry, other fruit esters. Alcohol apparent, but not detracting. Lightly warming. Some residual sweetness and toasted malt.

Part of gift pack with Sophie and Matilda. Big bottle into Maudite glass. Thin head with some fine lacing. Beer is murky medium brown with red-orange hues. Aroma is malty like the Matilda, but more "Belgian." Nice complexity in the flavor: candi sugar, alcohol, bitter dark fruits. Palate has a nice hop to it. Pretty bitter finish, and it lingers. Would want to find the right pairing for this one.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Marheb (674) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 11, 2012
1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 cheapdark (2963) - Quiptown & Central Valley, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 4, 2012
2011 version. Somewhat sweet aroma. Appears a little viscous in the glass. A brownish pale color of iced tea. First taste is quite strong and provides a slight burning sensation down the hatch. No head. Yes, quite syrupy, almost cloying at times. Medicinal finish. Too much for this lager lover. Quite an alky punch impact.
