awaisanen (1143), Irvine, California, USA Apr 4, 2008 From a 12oz Bottle. Courtesy of valpoaj. Transparent, ruddy amber colored pour with a thin head of cream.
The aroma is a pleasant bouquet of yeast and sweet malts, bringing out notes of brown sugar, nutty maple, flakey
toasted coconut, and mild peppery phenols. Light bodied, crisply carbonated mouthfee with a dry finish and
cleansing carbonic bite. Flavors of toasted caramels, doughy yeast, and almond biscotti. Some fruity prune
esters and dry leather come out toward the finish, along with gentle warming alcohols. Very respectable beer.
Thanks, AJ!
jehoey (711), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 2, 2008 aroma is overwhelmingly fig and raisin. pours amber in color with a small white head, not quite the typical belgian head. flavor was really figgy with lots of raisins, not quite as subtle and layered as a true belgian strong, however, It does do a good job of drying out on the finish. Not a bad beer, but decent.
dwaggs2 (93), Warrensburg, Missouri, USA Aug 31, 2008 2007 Bottle. This isn’t my style of beer. However, this is a decent beer being as it isn’t my style. Pours an amber color with a long lasting white head. This beer does leave some lacing on the side of the glass. Smell is of fruit. Raisin, plum and fig. It does smell like some caramel also. Taste is almost the same fruity and not that bad. The alcohol is hidden very well and is almost non apperent. Again not my style but a decent beer. PolakPorter (74), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 28, 2008 Pleasant yeasty aroma, slightly sweet and quite unique. Taste is all Belgium, sour yeasty goodness, sweet twain towards the finish. I was a little indifferent after my first Pere, the second was very impressive and left me wanting more. Well done, Goose. GAManiac (297), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 24, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a deep clear copper with a small buttery head that lingers a little while leaving a ring and little lacing. The smell is all candied sugar and sweet caramel malts with hints of dark fruits. The taste follows the aroma but is pretty mild in general. The candied sugar and malts are there with some spices in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with good carbonation and sticky sweet. This dubbel was nothing exciting but pretty drinkable. omhper (10456), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 22, 2008 Bottled at Monk’s Café Stockholm. Clear copper, no head. Evident caramelly nose. Sweet with medium-full bodied. Fairly soft with with some apricot, caramelized sugar and glue. Intense, but a bit assaulting with a minty black currant finish.
