3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jb (1821) - Rochester, New York, USA - JAN 20, 2013On tap at Tap and Mallet Goose Island versus Founders event. I was a tad disappointed by this one. Dark amber, sickly sweet medicine nose + oranges. Spice + orange marmalade in palate, sweet. Interesting but misses the mark for me, and lacks dimension.

Yum! Spicy and tasty, this ale is crisp and has no aftertaste. I'd like a stinger, thicker head, but this is one if my new favorites!

12oz bottle from 2012 poured clear medium dark amber in a chilled pint glass, with a tan head that dissipates quickly. No lacing but a quick swirl brings back a small head. Aromas of dried fruit and licorice. Taste is sweet carmel, raisins and licorice, with a spicy, warm, boozy finish that becomes more pronounced as it warms. Head adds a nice creamy malt flavor. Paired well with a flank steak in a mushroom wine sauce.

O-If you have the discipline to age a couple years, this beer gets incredibly smooth and even more complex dark fruit notes. Cigar notes are wonderful.
