12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/19/2016. Pours hazy ruby red/brownish color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, lightly spicy rye, banana, clove, orange peel, apple, light dark fruit/nuttiness, herbal, and and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, lightly spicy rye, banana, clove, orange peel, apple, light dark fruit/nuttiness, herbal, and and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal bitterness/rye spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, lightly spicy rye, banana, clove, orange peel, apple, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from yeast and rye spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice roggenbier style! All around good complexly, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. The rye character was smoother than I expected, but this definitely still had a lot of rye malt in the flavors. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. It poured a cloudy amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was of bread, malts and caramel. The taste was similar to the aroma with more malts, rye, caramel and wheat. Very nice.

Fantastic, enticing aroma of deeply caramelized malt, pink peppercorn, dried fruits and leather, caramelized banana, a hint of clove, and a wisp of smoke; ruddy red-brown color with a lasting beige-colored crown, nice little pillars of carbonation bubbles; rich and caramely without being too heavy; spicy rye and underlying banana and clove, spicy pepper throughout and a good bite of bitterness in the smoky finish; medium to medium-full body, smooth and slightly creamy and chewy; damn, they really nailed this beer and it’s a really fantastic beer that complex, unique, and down right DELICIOUS! What an amazing combination of styles. I’ll be raiding the grocery store later to stock up for the coming cold weeks!

Chicago 2/5/16 ($6 16 oz draft pour into nonic glass at Goose Island Tap Room). Cloudy dark brown pour, thin tan head. Malt and banana scent. Rye, banana taste, sweet offset by malt. Mild carbonation, thin texture, easy drinking. OK Beer.

(En fût à The Public House La Jolla): Un gros pain dodu couvert d’épices et de bananes sèches. Le corps est surprenant, bien protéiné, moelleux et vraiment facile à boire, ça fond dans la bouche.

Poured a brown color with aromas of vanilla, rye, light grass, and a touch of malt. Flavors are lots of rye, soft vanilla, and some hay, had on tap at the Brass Tap.

On tap at Flix Brewhouse. Brown pour with an off-white head. The aroma smells amazingly like root beer and vanilla cream soda. The flavor is quite a bit different. I get some heavy rye notes as well as some ash, toffee and grass. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Interesting beer.

On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and a 12 oz. serving to a Czech-pils glass, showing a cloudy, brownish amber color, with creamy, light tan head foam, and frothy cling to the sheet-like lacing. The nose was banana, esters, bubblegum, malt, caramel sweetness, and a two-fold dose of spice from yeast & rye. Medium bodied, with decent carbonation, the taste was similar notes, adding a moderate hop bitterness that was earthy, rind-like, somewhat peppery, and lingering into the finish, amped by some alcohol, and smoothed by a wheat generated creaminess. A somewhat entertaining conglomeration of German styles, with rye & wheat as key players. Liked the original cask version better.

Muddy brownish amber. Small off-white head. Wheat. Banana. Some clove. Bread. Bigger medium to lighter full body. Some alcohol. I enjoyed it.

Draft. Tart and dry, some dark malt flavors, rye is there. This is just a really bad German style wheat beer. Just not a great attempt at it.
