Glouglouburp (2006), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 20, 2008 In short: A surprisingly satisfying 2.5% Ale
How: Tap at brewpub (Clybourn location)
The look: Almost clear light brown body with almost no head.
In long: Surprising body for a 2.5% beer. I know of many 5% beer with a thinner more watery body. Actually about half the 5% beers I know have a thinner body. Malt profile has a whole wheat breakfast cereals flavour with some nuts. The comes just the right amount of dry leafy hops. Finish is mildly bitter and a bit nutty. I don’t know about the Belgian style from the description, if I had to guess I would have said English Bitter. I went through my pint in about 5 minutes. This thing would be killer on cask. Given it’s extra-low abv and the fact that it is only available on tap in the land of the bigger-is-better I expect pretty low ratings for this superb session beer. However I for one haven’t wished that much to get another Six since that strip-poker night when I had 2 fours and 2 sixes and Alexandra was down to her bra and panties… I didn’t get that other six, she had a straight and everybody laughed at my Homer Simpsons boxer shorts. csbosox (977), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Apr 27, 2008 On tap. Nut brown color, low carbonation, nary a head. Black pepper, slight clove & caramel, mild fruitiness. Very thin bodied. Taste is mildly nutty with mild black pepper and a very quaint fruitiness. I think the brewer hit the style on this one, but the style is just not very interesting, it is hard to be with such a small gravity beer. xnoxhatex (791), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 30, 2008 On tap at GI cly. Hazy red with billowing beige head. Aroma slight grain and burnt caramel, really dry with subtle yeast spice. Grain and dry sweetness up front with slight roasted malt, slight bitterness as well that could either from hops or a basic sort of chalkiness. For being such a huge head there isn’t much carbonation though not watery, also med to thin body. Very nice session beer but I doubt I will revisit it. Also this is my first GI beer as a full MBA member. hopscotch (4588), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 19, 2008 Draft… DLD’08… Murky burnt orange ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The nose extends restrained fruity esters and spicy phenols. Light-bodied and spritzy. Perfectly-balanced flavor… very refreshing. Short, crisp, clean finish. I’m trying to stay dry during the work week nowadays and I would drink this beer every evening with dinner if I had access to it. Terrific, flawless, Belgian table beer! heemer77 (3782), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jun 17, 2008 On tap at the Clyborne brewpub. The body was dark brown and copper with a white head. The aroma was caramel and pancakes. Fairly earthy with some black tea notes. The taste was strongly black tea, but then behind that you get some toffee and roasted notes. There was also some dirty fresh lettuce. An interesting beer for sure.
