Flight on tap at the Clybourn Brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer deep copper hue, transparent, deep awesome glow. Frothy offwhite head atop dies to a film, laces ok and sticks around. Aromas are some good citrusy lemon and grapefruit, gentle toastiness, biscuits, mellow yet growing sweet malt presence. Hops grow, quite pleasant grapefruit. Initial is lighter end of the fold, touch of girth in the middle, good hop presence, grapefruit and lemon meets some floralsn bready malts, touch of biscuits and gentle toast. Hop presence is decent, but definitely starts to run the show here. Middle is biscuity, gentle toast, some bread, straw. Backend is dry and toasty, firmer grapefruit. Everything plays well together. It’s really well put together, the experience flows well, essentially a Bitter with a nice grapefruit and American hop presence. I dig this. A bit toasty, some carmelized malt elements, good grapefruit kick up front tapers and lingers into the finish. Dry, good hop kick. This would be killer if the body let up just a touch. Really nice ESB.. Dropping the malt bill a touch and ABV to the 4.6-4.8 range would be fantastic. Solid. Overall, it’s a really nice ESB here.

Draft at Clybourn. One of Jared’s last beers, I believe. Pours a deep amber with no head. The nose is quite clean. Toasty with ligh caramel. Some soft herbal hops. On tasting, medium body. Toasty malt, herbal hops medium bitterness. Clean overall. Okay but not much going on overall.
