Sample thanks to drewbeerme. Pours a red tinted deep amber with a minimal white fizz. Nice smokey jerky beachwood aroma. Odd tangy sweet juicy quite sugary flavor, beachwood, jerky, with a strange fruity gummy-bear finish. Med bodied with sharp fizzy carbonation.

Draft at GI clybourn. This was served as a smoked Bock rather than Maibock. But whatever. Pours a clear, dark smoky brown. Nose is super rich with bacon and barbecue leading the way. On the taste, it is bold. This is preobably the smokiest beer I’ve ever had and I don’t know that I agree with using applewood to smoke it. Very robust smoke that almost reaches a point of being cloying. Okay, but a bit much.

Tap @ GI. Pours a clear brown with a tan head. Nice smoked meat aroma, wood, and malt. Good smoke flavor and some sweetness as well. I continue to like smoked beers more and more.

tap at GI. Brownish pour. Aroma is like smelling a hickory smoked BBQ pit. Some ham and bacon in the nose. Flavor has a bit too much smoke, too much bacon flavor in it. I think the original bock is probably really damn good. But hard to get to the core of the beer. The smoke stands proud in this beer.

Shared via growler by drewbeerme at DLD ’09 (Munster, IN). Poured a nice reddish rusty hue, some haze, with small head. Aromas pushed some nice smokey and light meatiness, with a touch of earthy hops, wood, and light malt sweetness. Largely smokey. Initial was similar, moderate bodied and not overbearing. Pushing smoke, light wood, some light meatiness. Despite the 7.3% tag, this was going down pretty easy. Very pleasant smoked brew with a good body and good flavors. Thanks, Drew!

On tap at GI Clybourn under the named "Smoked Bock" . Deep red hue with big smokey, cherry aroma. Meaty, bacony, earthy. Flavor is a nice balance of smoke, wood, and sour cherries. Some peat, some bacon, some other fruit and earth.Thick, nice mouthfeel with a bit of alcohol in the finish. Really tasty, nice beer.

HUGE nose of smoked wood, and I can’t understate that. Flavor comes through much the same way, smoky, a touch of the original bock flavor shines through but is completely overpowered by the smoked malt. This is like drinking a campfire.

nose of bacon and salty smoke, some sweetness comes late. appearance is a 5 -- dark maroon fades to nearly opaque. less smoke apparent in the flavor, mostly a well bittered but balanced brew, with roast and smoke returning late. this goes beyond a simple smoked and into rauch territory.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BBB63 (5411) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - APR 4, 2009
Tap at GI Clybourn as Smoked Bock and 7.2% ABV: Slightly hazed reddish amber (almost bronze) hue with almost no head nor lace. The nose is indeed smoky and meaty with a nice sweet malt and ripened dark fruit (fig and dried apricot) twang. Slightly woody and earthy all around. Very nice and inviting. The taste is more of the same with a restrained smoke character, meaty and peaty background and a finish that is woody and mineral water. The mouth feel is soft and lush, works well as to display the palate. A solid brew and worth a try.
