Taster on tap at Neon’s. Clear golden yellow color. Nice bretty, tart aroma. Some moderate citrus-grapefruit, not too much though. Some orange citrus, thin white head, couple bits of lace. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft lighter carbonation. More dry in the finish. Lightly tart taste, very much like a grapefruit is. Hint of oak wood. Light sweet. Great balance of grapefruit, oak, light belgian candy sugar and spices. Some grapefruit / citrus zest. Very enjoyable stuff, pretty balanced and well-done. Definitely an improvement on the base, I think

The Goose Island crew was walking down the line for BCS variants with pitchers of this at GTMW 2013. Pours a clear gold with a smallish white head. Notes of pale and bready and sweet malts, sugars, straw, and a lot of grapefruit juice. Some bitterness from the rind. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a funky, fruity, then dry mouthfeel. I liked this but give the edge to regular Sofie.

On tap at Republic 7c, pour a bright yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of grapefruit and Belgian yeast. Tons of grapefruit mix nicely with yeast sweet and tart. Yum!

Enjoyed on tap at Wild Monk. Served in a tulip. A: Pours a clear gold color with a thick white head forming on the pour. Recedes slowly to a thick cap that leaves tons of soapy lace down the glass. S: Huge grapefruit. on the nose. A ton of bright zest and intense flesh. The sweetness of the grapefruit is captured and it doesn’t impart any tart or acidic notes. The base is only mildly present in the nose. T: The grapefruit is much subdued in the taste which is a slight disappointment. The base saison is much more prevalent with some light peppery notes and fruity esters. Sweet wheat notes with some light zesty grapefruit. Mild pithy bitterness. M: Very light and crisp with a medium high carbonation. Great drinkability. Zesty sweet finish. O: The nose was fantastic, but the taste was lacking that grapefruit pop and was not all that different from regular Sofie. Having said that I still enjoyed this beer and would gladly have it again. Tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Clear golden color, no foam. Fruity saison aroma, inflected with grapefruit. Flavor is same, slightly bitter, a little Brett character. Dry. Tasty but not amazing.

Tap at Max Burger, Longmeadow, 18/05/13. Clear pale golden with a thin white head that retains well. Nose is sour gooseberries, lemon curd, funk, grass, tarte citric fruit notes, farmy. Taste comprises soured fruits, grass, sugar, pinch of corriander, apple, funk, light spice. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, some gentle bitterness in a farmy fruity finale. Decent saison (fruit beer).
