COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

Classic saison aroma. Yeast funk shines through. Golden with thick head. Hazy. Classic saison but kinda bland. I wish they fermented at higher temps. But it’s inbev ... whadaya expect haha

Sure, it’s made by InBev, but who cares when it means that your local grocery stores and bodegas are carrying a Belgian saison aged in wine barrels? It’s tough to deny that this is a refreshing, spritzy Belgian-style beer that is lightyears ahead of a Bud Light.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2016 Sampled from tap at ’Beertemple’. Clear, pale golden yellow with a white head. Fruity-grassy, slightly funky aroma of lemon peel, straw, dandelion and some gooseberry. Sweetish, fruity-grassy, slightly funky taste of lemon peel, ginger, dandelion and some gooseberry, followed by a short, slightly bitter, dry-grassy finish. Thin to medium body, slightly spritzy mouthfeel, flat. Nice!

Amarelo palha, levemente turva, espuma de boa formação e pouca persistência, aspecto cremoso. Aroma frutado de laranja, brett, especiarias. Paladar de leve dulçor e amargor. Corpo leve e média carbonatação. Final laranjado, seguindo bem o aroma.

Keg at The White Horse, Parson’s Green as ’Goose Island Sofie’. £7.50 a pint. Hazy dark yellow, lightly sparkling, small foamy white head. Aroma is bubblegum, wheaty ester. Body is light, tingly carbonation, a bit foamy. Taste is more bubblegum, estery, blueberry, some soap, some thin jelly and gummy bears, spicy finish. It’s a bit thin and plain, not fussed on the body. Could take it or leave it.

2015 BJCP Category: 25B Saison

AROMA: Orangepeel, white grape, general farm quality. Lemonade quality. Estery. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Definitely right color, but very small head with no lacing or retention. 1/3

FLAVOR: Light orange peel, plenty of white grape. Some tartness on the finish. Spice fades quickly. Becomes more dry and tart. Some honey wheat flavor. Tame for the style, but interesting. 13/20

MOUTHFEEL: Undercarbonated for the style. Light body. Tepid, watery mouthfeel. Some alcohol warmth. Should be much more bubbly 2/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: A fine beer and additional wine barrel is creative. Not a great example of the saison style, though. Amazing that a fresh bottle is so mild. Probably better considered Belgian Blonde. 6/10

TOTAL SCORE: 31/50
