Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

Sample at the Wrigleyfield Goose Island. It is a very pale straw gold with a foamy eggshell white head. The aroma is of white pepper and citrus with funky saison notes that are reminiscent of sweat socks but still somehow remains very light and appetizing. A light zesty body compliments the peppery, green, citrusy saison flavor well. Really nice for summer.

765ml brown bottle. Bottled 25 Jun 14. Pale lemony yellow pour with some haze. White cap that fades into a thin swirl, minimal lacing. Interesting nose, some fruity apple notes, spice/pepper, citrus. Taste has some fruity notes, grass, spice, citrus, trace of sourness sneaking in. Orange peel lingers a bit as well as that fruitiness from before and a good hit of yeast. Good carbonation. Enjoyable, a bit sweeter than expected.

Orange yellow pour, with nice frothy white head. Aroma of citrus, orange peel, coriander, some dry grass. Extremely well balanced, touch of sweetness on the tip of the tongue. Complex on the palate and the finish. Citrus, spice, and herbaceous.

Transfer from BA review on 12-17-12- Poured from bottle into tulip glass Appearance –Pours a quite hazy orange-yellow color with a one finger white head. The head relatively quickly fades to a persistent film in the process leaving a nice level of lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell- The smell is heavy of yeast and banana as well as a strong biscuit aroma. Mixed with these smells are some lighter notes of an orange and some coriander and light pepper spice. Taste – The taste begins with some bready flavors mixed with an orange citrus taste. A yeasty taste with a light banana flavor ten comes to the tongue. The brew is smooth and malty up front, but as the taste moves on the beer sours up. Flavors of a lemon citrus enter the tongue more toward the middle of the taste.. Some flavors of coriander and a herbal/grassy funk flavor meld with the sour flavors more toward the end. At the finish of the taste a quite sour citrus flavor of orange and lemon mixed with a light bitter nature of a funky grassy/herbal hop taste and some spices linger on the tongue leaving a rather satisfying sour funked taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is just slightly above average. The slightly higher carbonation is quite nice for the sour, funky, and citrus flavors of the brew. This coupled with the medium body make in very drinkable and quite appropriate for the style and flavors. Overall – This was a nice easy drinking Belgian saison with a nice blend of sour/bitter/funk/malt One to try if you get a chance.

Pours a large and quicke dissipating white frothy head atop a clear straw coloured body. Nose of lemon and rotten cantiloupe. Flavour is very light and a tad too thin mid-palate. The finish is mildly barnyard and spruce. Okay. Purchased at Spinnakers Spirit Merchant (James Bay) for around $9.

Pours a hazy golden colour with a slightly foamy white head. Very citrusy aromas (mostly grapefruit) along with wheat. Strong grapefruit flavour along with notes of wheat. Good carbonation and a slightly dry and bitter finish from the grapefruit.
