Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

A nice golden pour with a thin white head. Smell of yeast, a little citrus, maybe banana? Good flavor of yeast, banana, and spices. Smooth finish, really nice saison! Would definitely drink again!

Wow recent ratings for this are all over the place. It is a pretty drinkable refreshing saison but nothing to warrant the rating swill crap. Pours a cloudy yellow. Grassy herbal earthiness running through the whole thing like fresh cut grass on a spring day. Not sure if it is appropriate for the freezing ass weather going on outside but who’s watching. A funky musty sort of aroma. Pretty effervescent texture and mouth feel as well. Pretty entertaining beer her and a pretty entertaining example of this style. Getting a little more complex and interesting than what I am used to.

Sampled at the Black Hills Beer Fest. Hazy yellow color. Very unique taste but all in all it was nothing special. I’m glad I didn’t piss any money away for a bottle of this. Has nothing on the bourbon stout.

Very hazy golden pour, lots of yeast in suspension, large fluffy white head, good retention. Aroma is pear, floral, champagne, butterscotch comes out as the beer warms. Medium light body, brief tingly carbonation, sweet up front that slowly fades to a mildly dry finish. Good one!

Since we did not want to pay the cover at Lovin cup, we were only allowed to stay for one beer. We then went to McGreg’s were I found this one I never had before. Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow beer with a large white head. The aroma is malt, fruit and yeast. The flavor is malt, fruit, yeast and some sweetness. The palate is sweet. The distinctly Euro aftertaste I did not enjoy.

Very light in yellow/gold pour. Yeasty and very light and refreshing. Lemon zest in the aroma. Flavor is clove, banana, a bit sour. Almost a champagne flavor and palate. Great as a sipping beer.

22 oz. bottle from Woodman’s in Madison, WI (bottled June 18, 2010). Pours pale yellow to light orange with a bubbly champagne-like head. Aroma of orange zest, peppercorns, and pinot grigio. Wonderfully refreshing flavor with citrus at the forefront but with funky and spicy notes on the finish and just enough sweetness to balance it all out. Exactly what a saison should be.

Bottled 23/04/2010. Bottle bought in Dublin, Ireland. Appearance: Absolutley beautiful hazy orange, literally vibrating with carbonation with a gorgeous thick snow white head. One of the most beautiful beers I have ever seen. Aroma: Delicious yeast, farmhouse, sour, lemon rind, just delicious. Flavour: A nice sourness at first, lemon, orange, lots of yeast, a little mustyness, wonderful carbonation on the tongue with short yeasty finish. Simply lovely.

(bottled 4-23-10) Pours a very hazy light yellow with a medium white head that soon subsides to a thin cap that leaves splotchy lacing. Aroma of pineapple (brett), must, grass clippings, lemon zest, toasted fennel seed, and orange creamsicle along with a floral character as well. Really great to smell. The taste has plenty of cracker, honeydew melon, orange, and baked bread with some pepper showing up right before the finish. The finish is very dry and earthy (mushroom?), and it actually comes to resemble white wine as it warms. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is very lively and effervescent. Overall, this is a well-crafted saison that is not overwhelmed with spice.
