Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

Tap at Sunset Grill in Boston. Hazy yellow pour with a foamy head. A subtle but delicious beer with notes of peppery spice, yeasty bread, tart fruit and wood, a bit of sweet vanilla, and some nice citrus hop presence on both the nose and the tongue. Palate is soft, supple, dry, and drinkable. Not aggressive, but well crafted and tasty.

Great aroma, scents of green apples and tart citrus. The appearance a faded gold, cloudy with a small egg white head. The taste comes on very tart at first, with citrus flavors of apple, orange peels, and mild vanilla. Itís a light sour, with little bitterness. More tart than it is sweet. The palate is light and tickling. This beer has a very mild fizz with thin texture coming to a light puckery finish.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2014 Bottle brought back at Christmas from Andersons in Toledo. Aroma is soft lemon, straw and light spices. Tastes are the orange peel, pepper, barnyard funk, wood and bread. Crazy good texture. Nice surprise - excellent brew. Right up there with the best saisons Iíve tried.

UPDATED: OCT 19, 2011 Honestly this is a brew of genius. So great. Tons of layers of enjoyment. Sweet, refreshing. Crisp like champagne. Awesome. Yeasty and citrusy. Pours a hazy yellow. The head dissipates fairly quickly leaving small circles of lace on the surface. I reinforce the tasting not above with the addition of the tartness. Wonderful brew.

Found on tap at Maxieís Southern Comfort restaurant in Milwaukee. What a treat! A perfect mate to the fried oyster poí boy sandwich. A full-bodied saison that had all sorts of fruity flavors happening. Will have to try bottled version.

A: Nice golden hazy yellow. Big carbonation at first but dissipates quickly. A few minute floaties in there as well. S: Funky and zesty, I love this smell. Almost like a gueze actually, but not nearly as sour. Lemons and brett. T: Just like the smell. Tastes funky and with a blast of lemon and pepper. One of the best summer brews or year round. M: Crisp, carbonated and thin. O: Excellent. One of the best saisons Iíve had and Iíve had a lot. This is worth seeking out.

Big bottle, poured a light golden color with a generous head. Aroma of orange peel and some coriander, slight banana from the yeast possibly. Taste is lite sweetness with some lite bitterness touch. Dry finish. Soft creamy texture. Not a huge fan of the saison style, but this has to be one of my favorites of the style.

2011 vintage. 22 oz. into Estrella Damm tall pint glass (not ideal glassware, but itís what I have to work with). Hazy gold-orange. Thick, sticky foamy head. Smell of funky yeast and spice. Aroma reveals really pleasant barnyard and fresh citrus (oranges) notes, and some herbs. Lively mouthfeel. Great, layered malt profile, and flavor stays citrusy. Leans towards sweet, but has a bit of a tartness in the finish. Bitterness is very low. Outstanding rendition, superb drinkability. This is sessionable at 6.5%.

On tap. Aroma is peppery and and yeasty. Appearance is hazy straw with a thick white head of foam. Taste is yeasty and peppery, much like the aroma. Medium bodied and fairly quaffable. Interesting little beer.
