Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

22 oz. bomber. 2010 vintage. Bottled 02/19/10, bottle 1632. Pours a hazy golden peach color with a small foamy white head that dissipates quickly. It leaves a little lace but not much. It has a clean, typical scent for the style. It is definitely in the style of Saison DuPont. It has an abundance of fruitiness atop a slight mustiness form the yeast. It has a farmhouse scent, but not an overpowering one. It is still a young beer though. The taste follows the nose, but with a heightened fruitiness. It has a lot of lemony tartness. It pretty much is a lemony bread. It tastes like the countryside. There is a bit of banana and clove int he aftertaste. Not much funk in the taste though. The mouthfeel is a bit over carbonated but it makes for a refreshing beer. This one is supremely drinkable, it is the perfect summer beer. Overall this is a great one from Goose Island. This is the quintessential flavor I look for in a Saison. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-16-2010 03:14:24

Bottle. Pours hazy gold color. Aroma of citrus, yeast. Flavor was pineapple, with a kick. Definitely citrus. Light and refreshing. Not too alcoholic. Great beer.

bottle - Pours lightly hazy gold with a lingering white head. It smells of citrus, yeast, and some light malts. The flavor is sweet up front with citrus, spice, and particularly pleasant notes of grapes and oak sneaking in there. It’s bubbly on the palate and has some dryness in the finish. I really enjoyed this one. Excellent saison.

Bottle - Pours clear orange-yellow with sediment floating around and a huge fluffy white head. Smell is lightly spicy lemon pepper, yeast, and a citrusy sweetness. Really drinkable, lightly sweet and spicy, with hints of chardonnay, lemon, orange, and oak. Creamy finish, with a bit of alcohol and hop bite. Woudl have liked it to be a little drier, but overall really nice.

pours an opaque pale yellow with a huge foamy white head...very lively looking...nice retention and lacing. aroma has notable bret...tart, leathery, funky, sour...fresh orange, orange blossom. flavor is tart at first followed by nice peppery. spicy notes, some funk, and a bit of orange blossom...not as sour as the aroma suggests unfortunately but still tasty. mouthfeel is super lively...light and crisp with a very dry finish reminiscent of a dry white wine.

Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Sweetish aroma with saison-yeast, spices, and a light funky note. The flavor is well balanced with sweet and spicy notes, some lemony funk, and light notes of anise seed. Very good.

Pour started out clear golden which clouded as the yeast entered from the bottlom of the bottle. Huge pillowy white head and pretty good lacing. Fruity and spicy aroma. Flavor was sweet fruit and yeastiness with some slight barnyard funk. Dry yet rich mouthfeel. Very good beer that avoids the common "too sweet" shortcoming of many US efforts at this style. I liked it.

2009 Vintage. Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a generous white head. It produces a wonderful aroma. Dominated by that familiar wheaty/spicy belgina yeast. Also some orange peel aromas as well as a sweet white wine such as a riesling.. It’s aroma leads you to the complex flavor. At first a tart, citrusy flavor, and follows with some sweeter oaky, vanilla flavors. Drinks very much like a wine. Light to medium body with fizzy carbonation and snappy finish. Not my preferred style but a pretty good Saison in my opinion.
