COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

Pours opaque sand to straw to gold hay in color with white head. The aroma has notes of spiciness and yeast to go along with a mild level of grainy malts and sweet apple fruitiness. The taste has a similar layout as the nose with spiciness, some yeasty spices then moving into modest grain and apple sweetness. It picks up a bit more spiciness into the finish.

The aroma is peppery spices and yeast along with some malt. Medium body with flavors of yeast, citrusy hops, malt and spices. The finish is lightly hopped with a yeast aftertaste. Above average overall.

Pours a rather bright golden color with very slight haze, large bubbled head, and tons of lace. Tons of carbonation in this beer that is mesmerizing to watch. Nose has some orange & funky yeasty aromas. On the palate there is a nice citrus flavor with light wheaty malt. Easy drinking and refreshing.

Appearance: 22oz bomber poured into an Einbecker Dunkel glass. Pours a fairly transparent golden color with a 1 finger white crown that rapidly dissipates and leaves behind small swirls of lace. Smell: Belgian yeast, pale malt, a touch of orange, and some spice notes. Taste: Loads of belgian yeast and a good portion of curaco(sp?) orange peel, and a slightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Crisp and on the lite side of medium bodied. Drinkability: Easy drinker... Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-17-2009
