Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

It pours a light hazy golden leaving a large one inch foamy and bubbly white head in my pint glass. Though pretty hazy, carbonation is still seen rising. Foamy lacing is left. The smell has the orange, lemon and Belgian yeast up front, but combined nicely. The taste is sharp around the citrus yet some distinct refreshing sweet qualities from some light malts make a slight presence. Lemon comes in really strong close to the end of the pint glass. The palate is light to medium with adequate sharpness on the tongue. Id say this is pretty drinkable. It leaves a sticky aftertaste and finish. Overall, this is good for its style and good for me.

It pours a light golden with a full white head. It is somewhat hazy and does produces lacing as the head disappears. It has a lemon fruit aroma with moderate spiciness and notes of pepper. There are also aromas of sourness and hints of orange. Its initial flavor is of high fruit sweetness highlighted by orange and topped with spices including notes of pepper. There are also hints of lemon and tartness. It has a light moderate feel with light bitterness and a dry finish.

Nice Belgium beer, citrus and sweet complexity. Yet this is still a Belgium beer that is not worth buying again

Bottle at home. Pours pale straw, very slight haze. Copious, fast-receding white head. Grapefruit and green apple on the nose. Very slight hint of something funky, but not unpleasant. Flavor is sharp, more apple, some citrus. Slight sweetness develops throughout, resolving with a tart, crisp finish. Thin mouthfeel, high carbonation. Refreshing, very pleasing and drinkable.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie, consumed at Isobels, Eardisley, Herefordshire, Saturday 31st October 2015. Looks lovely and spritzy on the pour, lovely clean, zippy bubbles. Aroma fresh but also Belgian, clean, a touch of spice and orange peel. This is fresh in the mouth also, a seriously confident, classy beer. I like it but a big bottle on my own after a few beers was hard going. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

A soft, spicy dough, accented with light oranges and with a gentle nudge of wine grapes. The light honey brew cascades into the glass and a soapy white head rises to two fingers above the surface. The aroma is mirrored in the flavor and the carbonation is as delicate as the rest of the experience. Refined and elegant and even the finish screams class. Very nice. Ill be happy to open another when the need for a subtle nightcap.
