4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
THOUGHTS: Very wine like in flavor and very champagne like in texture, but still recognizable as a saison. An excellent summer sipper that could probably stand upt to colder weather as well. It should age incredibly well. Less hoppy than many saisons, but there was enough acid and sourness to create great balance with the malt.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a light to medium yellow that was almost glowing. It had excellent carbonation that constantly tried to rebuild the head, which was average to large, frothy, off-white and mostly diminishing. The aroma had light to moderate light bread and cracker malts; light herbal and grassy hops; moderate to heavy earthy, dusty and spicy yeast; slight funky yeast; and white wine. The initial flavor was slightly sweet, lightly acidic and slightly sour; while the finish was slightly sweet, light to moderately acidic; moderate to heavily tart and lightly bitter with an average on flavor and long on dryness duration. There was white wine, cracker, white bread, funky yeast, a little wood, apple, maybe a hint of vanilla, champagne, earthy yeast and dusty yeast. The light to medium body was very dry with very fizzy and tingly carbonation.

Aroma is one of beer’s most complex features. Aroma is propelled by lively CO2 and dampened by pillowy heads - especially nitrogen foam. Click on a term below to add it to your tasting notes.

765ml bottle 2014 vintage pours semi clear light orange with 2 finger head. Nose is soft grainy spice, vanilla citrus and bits of belgian yeast. Taste has a surprisingly creamy mouthfeel, feels undercarbed on the palate even tho the head was plentiful, soft rounded grain spice, bitter orange, dry light vanilla and cereal. Finishes with some earthy wheat, light pepper, grain, and light vanilla citrus spice. I feel like something was not quite there with this bottle, mouthfeel was somewhat lifeless and it hadn’t really dried out enough to be great.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at Leuven Innovation Beerfestival, thanks for sharing! Right up after Matilda, another Belgian copy which does a bad job. Yeast, low bitter, I even rather drink Palm than this, it has the same metallic, yeasty, taste. Bad.

Thanks for sharing! Sampled 650 ml. bottle @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. 2012 Version I believe. Dark amber, little white head. Nose is oily, dull & bland, yeasty, light hay & dull oak,… Very boring, oily, bland yeasty, sugary taste, thin, caramel, metallic, light oak,… Dull & oily,… Tastes like a boring Spéciale belge, disappointing for me.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle sample @ Leuven Beer Innovation 2015, shared with the RB Belgian crew.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Murky yellow brew with a white head. Carbonation is extremely lively. Aromas of fresh citrus. Tastes of lemon peel, some lime notes, biscuit, and fresh wheat. Bittersweet, semi-tart finish. Barnyard funk. Not much to this, I was expecting more. Decent.
