COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

Bottled in Jan. 09. 22oz. bottle served in the new style Blvd. Smokestack Chalice Poured a pale gold with a finger of fine bubbled, white head. Lots of carbonation. Coriander and orange peel in the aroma. Fairly light bodied. Spicy finish from the yeast. More citrus and orange peel. Very dry. After drinking the Juliet, this was a bit of a let down. Nothing wrong with it, but it just didn’t do a whole lot for me.

Decent sized bright white head of fine bubbles that reduces rather quickly. Light and fruity aroma with some lemon and pears, straw and some mild cheddar cheese. Color is a bright medium gold. Wow, what a refreshing beer. Light crisp and very satisfying. The perfect brew to have after standing around out in the sun all day. More light fruit, grains and some dry grass. Light white grape in there also. Very easy drinking. A very, very good light and refreshing summer saison!

On tap at Chappy's in Dayton, OH. On the heels of a barley wine and with spicy food, I just don't taste anything. No head, no lacing, no discernible flavor. I smell slight licorice, but barely. Licorice, citrus taste, but very slight. Wrong time, wrong place for me and this beer. Disappointed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: Sofie comes out of the bottle to the tulip as a light, pale golden (almost glowing) bubblyness. A massive three-finger head burst and pop beautifully and cling to the glass like foamed milk atop a cappuccino. It’s a sight to behold and you’ll have a short time to watch. Stunning. Smell: A sweet, sour funkiness stand up top. Green apples, grass, hay, This scent is so intoxicatingly tart that I find myself getting lost inside it. I’m in love with the smell and I can barely describe it. Maybe that’s why I’m so in love. Taste: Crisp light sourness up front with a green apple center. It’s got a pale malty taste that helps highlight the gorgeous sour flavor that shines. Easily one of the most drinkable beers I’ve had. A favorite of the Belgian because the yeast stands next to the sour bacteria. Mouthfeel:: Sofie is light and bubbly across the tongue. Like a champagne that’s starting to go flat. Everything dances so well. Overall: I’m in love. I’ll be snatching up as much of this gorgeously drinkable beer as possible and I suggest you do the same in your area. (Unless it’s Southern Illinois)

12 oz bottle. Cloudy golden pour with a thin lacy head. Aroma of yeast, grapefruit and barnyard funk. Even, smooth taste with a great slightly sweet and sour finish.

Bottle from Spirits Toms River. Pours out a decently carbonated, mostly clear golden color with a small white head. Aroma is slightly acidic tartness, orange peel and some spices. Taste is of dry, fruity yeast, some spice, orange peel, light tart funky, subtle fruits and a touch of bitterness creeps in on a very dry finish. Solid, and bound to go down hill now that AB owns it. Wonder when the beechwood aged version comes out.

Very well done. This beer starts out with a week looking pale yellow color and a small head. I don’t give much credence to appearance though. The aroma has fruit and a bit of sourness. The flavor has a bit of lemon along with a touch of bread. Very crisp and clean. Finishes quite dry and refreshing.

Bottle sample at a tasting at DSG’s place. Thanks DSG. Hazy pale golden, frothy white head. Smells a little stale, a little like apple cider. Tastes mildly sour, then sweet. Light body, tangy, sweet finish that stays on the tongue for a while. Good.
