COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

From the bottle. funky aroma from the yeast, bitter orange and some white grape present. some tart notes on the palate, not overbearing and a little sweetness to balance, slightly vinous. Light carbonation with a soft mouth feel. Dry finish, overall a pleasant beer

Thanks for sharing! Sampled 650 ml. bottle @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. 2012 Version I believe. Dark amber, little white head. Nose is oily, dull & bland, yeasty, light hay & dull oak,… Very boring, oily, bland yeasty, sugary taste, thin, caramel, metallic, light oak,… Dull & oily,… Tastes like a boring Spéciale belge, disappointing for me.

Bottle sample @ Leuven Beer Innovation 2015, shared with the RB Belgian crew.

Murky yellow brew with a white head. Carbonation is extremely lively. Aromas of fresh citrus. Tastes of lemon peel, some lime notes, biscuit, and fresh wheat. Bittersweet, semi-tart finish. Barnyard funk. Not much to this, I was expecting more. Decent.

Medium snowwhite head over pale golden, clear beer. Smoked nose, tarry and phenolic, strange - then sour fruit and some citrus. Taste is not smoked at all, but contains some phenols. Sweet fruitjuice, that take a long time lingering on. Medium bodied at best. Not bad.

Goose Island ’farmhouse ale’ aged on wine barrels, with medium thick but strongly cobweb-lacing, off-white head and hazy golden blonde robe. Fruity and quite complex aroma of pear, mango, straw, lemon zest, peach, pepper, pineapple, hint of wood, grape peel but alas, a faint touch of H2S (rotting egg!) as well, fortunately receding quickly. Fruity, estery, ’Belgian’ taste, subdued sweetness, orange, pineapple, mango, berries, light acidity (lemon peel), nice and soft bready malt sweetness below but still somewhat thinnish body, drying finish with a dash of spicy hops, peppery yeast accents and woody tannins, with persisting grape fruitiness. Quite complex and tasty, too bad for the H2S.

Had this at a tasting at my Wegmans. A nice Belgian style ale. Great yeasty aroma and a nice complex flavors. I’ll have to pick up a bottle soon.
