dwaggs2 (534), Lee’s Summit, Missouri, USA Dec 15, 2008 Bottle. Pours a yellow color with a thin white head. Smells of citrus and spice. Taste is malt and sweet. Very crisp and clean. Easy to drink. Narnad (682), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Oct 31, 2008 Found a bottle recently. Pours a very clear golden with a wispy white head. The aroma has a spicy hops scent with some sweet pils malt as well. First flavor is the spicy hops flavor which subsides into the sweet pils tones ending with a sweet, crisp lemon citrus ending. Overall one of the better Kolschs I have had. Dango (26), Snekkersten, Denmark Oct 31, 2008 Tried this on a windy fall day in Chicago - it actually snowed during the afternoon - so for a self-entitled ’’summertime’’ beer, the circumstances of the tasting are not really fair. Did not leave a great impression - but ncie fruitiness and some malts - I imagine it would work really well on a warm day. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Oct 27, 2008 Tap at the Clybourn location. Very pale. Crisp body, decent hops, biscuity malts, and a touch of sweetness. They called this a kolsch, which for once actually seems like an accurate descriptor of an American beer. IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Oct 20, 2008 Bottle: medium golden with some light sweet fruit aromas. Taste is smooth with more light fruit and light malt. Pretty decent. DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel Oct 18, 2008 (10/9/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Clybourn, Chicago. Clear golden. Aroma is rather hoppy, with some flowers, some bready malt and nice fruitiness. Sweetish bready flavor with some fruits, finishes dry with moderate hoppiness. Medium-bodied. Rastacouere (5552), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 8, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Fresh on tap at Clybroun, this was an absolutely superb Kölsch, better than most I’ve had in Cologne.
I like:
Absolutely spot on. This is one pint I downed in less than 10 minutes and could have done it again until I fell as natural as it felt. Precisely what I’m looking for in the style. Hugely refreshing, focused, crisp soft cerealic taste, based on doughy freshness. Lasting lacy white head. Gentle creamy, minimal acidity acts as a bonus. Not bubbly, but enthusiast, rather big-bubbled, coating carbonation. Soft noble hop kiss in the finish leaves lots of room for the breadiness and graininess. Fresh! Fresh! Fresh!
I dislike:
I can’t believe how low this is scored. The bottles must not translate the exuberant freshness all that well.
Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 28, 2008 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Clear golden with a white head. Sweetish malty nose. Medium body with sweet malts and basically no hoppiness. Drinkable but bland. 190908
